27 million is utter madness and obscene. If PL football doesn't get to grips with these out of control transfers fees and wages I fear the UK Government will.

27 mill when its well known he wants only chelsea?
sounds like bullshit to me. southampton wouldn't have any leverage and shaw would try to force a move if he knew they were in for him

I'm pretty confident this one wont happen. If he signs for us he knows he'll never play for chelski unless he does a sol...

I would rather we sign a player from abroad who is technically proficient and better coached.

= Alex Sandro.

I won't stop beating this drum, I apologize.
Fucksake! After my well documented woes with him on FIFA you still pine for this pointy-headed wanker?

But yeah. Nice player. The price they'd want makes it a total non-starter though.

Sadly his release clause is £44m and with three years left on his contract I think they will want at least half of that before they let him go.

I think 20m is about what I was expecting. But, I'm also blinded by love and think he'd be worth that, especially given his age. They purchased him for around 10m Euros, so they could essentially over double their investment. I don't see us ever spending 20m on a LB, but if we do, I hope it's him.

Alex Sandro would be the perfect LB for us IMO. Would rather have him than Coentrao.

However, I am not so sure we could get him and if we could he would cost around 25m IMO. My second, more realistic choice, would be Ben Davies. I reckon we could get him & Corchia and have change left over to go towards a CB for what it would cost to get Alex Sandro and BD has the added bonus of adding to our homegrown requirements for the squad.

I'm also a fan of Ben Davies. I mentioned during the summer I would have loved to go after him if we weren't sold on Rose as I think he's a more cost-effective and further along in his development option than a guy like Luke Shaw.

I got some shit for that when Davies had a pretty big stinker against us but since then he's been very good. He's a LB that can do it all and he's only 20.

Agree. I wuld be very happy with that signing. Another advantage is we could accommodate him and Rose, giving the both enough games to develop without burning either out or giving them a lack of match experience.

I also think the Homegrown quota could be a bit of a concern next year and he would ease those fears.

I'm not quite sure if Davies/Rose would work, actually. Rose has proven he's a starting caliber LB in the EPL, and quite honestly, I'm still curious to see if he continues to improve as he has done so already this season. The problem with Rose is an apparent checkered injury past. He had some hamstring/groin issues last year, has a toe deal this year and if it's an ongoing concern, even if he does grow into his role, the whole reliability factor needs to come into play.

Davies has proven himself at Swansea as well and both will be wanting the lion's share of starts. And, given their ages and experience, they should be at a side where they are the starter. Personally, the best case scenario would be having a guy like Davies/Rose with a veteran like BAE. Why we opted to loan out Benny is beyond me. Even if AVB didn't get along with him he should have realized you don't loan out BAE until you have a legit replacement because Naughton is not it.

I agree with the theory of having an experienced LB around as back up but BAE doesn't strike me as someone who can just drop in and be a reliable replacement. This is why I wouldn't have minded us signing someone like Abidal in the summer or someone of that ilk.
