First time I am losing confidence on Ange. Not because of his plan A only tactics. But somehow his reluctance to bench Bissouma. Bissouma been costing us for a while now. And Ange showing no inclination to have bench him

If he starts Bissouma against Arsneal, I am already done with him. It would give me zero confidence in Ange to get it right.

Ha ha you can see that everyone is tiptoeing around the "he's got to go" line, waiting for someone else to say it.
It would be beyond stupid to say that but he does need to take a look at himself

I just said in a WhatsApp group that if things don’t change drastically then I would be surprised if he’s here at Christmas. Which is soul crushing to say.

Signings are needed, that’s undeniable. But it’s the simple things that shouldn’t require signings that are the predominant reason we are losing games.

But you can adapt mid season. The same key issues have been there for all to see for a long time. Our set piece coaches need sacking as a start.
I saw a quote from him saying he doesn’t think you need a specific set piece coach, like I said he’s being a bit naive, the pl is a much higher standard than where he’s managed before. As long as he learns from this season then fine

It is, as they say, a work in progress

I'm sorry but it was criminal malpractice not to start Hojberg today, after clear evidence last game.

You can't play that high a line without a player who can play as a DM and know where to position himself to cut out counter attacks. Bissouma CANNOT do that - he just runs around like a headless chicken - no positioning. That was obvious after last game.

Also don't get why we keep seeing Maddison every week when he's doing absolutely nothing. Would have been better with a Hojberg, Bentancur, Sarr midfield today. Or GLC but that's not on the cards apparently.

Where is the wow rating, if he really said this, then he’s extremely naive.

This is it for me. His attitude is great to a point and his belief and passion is brilliant. But the reality is, this league is an absolute ocean filled with monsters, its naive not to adapt and sadly if Amhe doesn't see it. It will get ugly very fast.

Gordon talking immediately after the game about how they simply changed tactics to beat us - exactly what Silva said after the Fulham game.

Ange has been comprehensively found out.

That’s awfully naive and shows that he needs to adapt to a completely different in the PL.

I'm starting to have my doubts about his ability. Our defence is not a collective unit. And thats on Ange. He relies too much on things like VdV pace to fix things. And we can't defend set pieces.

I'm also questioning his man management. Bissouma have been out of form for so long. Why not give Höjbjerg a chance?

I think my issue is the long term potential of playing with two fullbacks so high up the pitch all the time. Even if we have the best player for every position, is that a setup that we can get away with to be at the level we wish to be at?

I can accept losses like these in our development, as frustrating as they are, but at the moment I'm really wondering if we're persisting with something that is just too open.
Suppose we won’t know until we give Ange at least one more big transfer window and more time.

There have been positive signs from it and also concerning signs.

I think if we had a top class LW then they’d have headed that Werner chance back across and into the goal to make it 1-0 and it’s a completely different game for example.

Also we have to remember that Sarr is 21, VDV is 22, Udogie is 22, Johnson is 22 etc so this team and these players also still need time to develop.

For me the personnel issues are clear:
1. ST - Son can’t play against a low block/back 5, sign a top class proper striker who can hold up the ball and move son back to LW next season
2. WF - we need to sign 1 ideally 2 top top class wing forwards to can cross and score, Werner is far too wasteful to be a starting LW and Johnson is still young and inconsistent albeit a great prospect.
3. DM - Biss and PEH neither seem to be the answer, compare them to likes of Rice and Rodri etc they are miles off what we need especially in a system like this
4. Back-up creative AM who Ange will use. Since his injury comeback, Maddison has been well below par, Ange doesn’t play Lo Celso and Kulu isn’t really proven quality in that area
5 4th CB
6 Improved CM option compared to PEH & Skipp
7 & 8!Better back-up RB & LB if Porro & Udogie get injured
9 Younger more suitable back-up GK to Vicario

1-5 are a must this summer.
6-9 are needed at some point.

And then we will know if Ange needs to tweak his system a bit or if it isn’t sustainable at this level but I think it’ll be fine with more time and better players, it took Pep, Klopp, Arteta etc all a few seasons for it to click and with far better players and bigger budgets than Ange has.

Can't keep changing coaches and expect to ever progress.

Did we have a defensive set piece coach last season? I know Gianni Vio was our attacking coach

Also is there a stat for XGA on set pieces?
