I'm curious about the bad attitude stamp he's received. Is he a poor trainer? Does he hang with the wrong crowd? Is he just a bit of a twat? Does he gamble like Toney?
Since it's been widely reported that he's a bit of a bad egg I don't doubt he is, I just wonder what it's all about.

I'd like both, greedy i know but would allow us to move Son to CF full time, have the wing positions set for a number if years and allow us to go all out next year for Ferguson and a centre back as the rest of the squad would be already in place.

Not got the raw pace of Johnson but he's a proper tricky winger in the mould that Ange seems to like.

Concerns would be around his physical aptitude for the PL and maybe attitude? We know Brennan is fine in both of those regards and I fear Edwards could be a bit of a Sancho who just doesn't have the pace or strength to truly succeed in the PL despite being great technically?

Also got fewer league goals for Sporting last season than Johnson got in the PL playing for a much, much weaker team...

Think I'm leaning towards Brennan, although Edwards would be an interesting one.

Perhaps Edwards is being considered strongly again if the deal for Johnson also surrounds Sanchez going the other way making the deal more palatable.

If Sanchez is sold separately to Rennes we'd need another makeweight you feel negotiating with Forest.

Also securing Edwards might make us going back in for a striker (Orban?) more viable.

TL;DR - there's a lot of spinning plates here.

Should try for.both if possible. Johnson is versatile and Edwards could play left or right side. He would be great in this system.

Don't think signing both makes any sense tbh. Neither is a proper number 9 even if Johnson can cover there.

I don’t think it’s particularly sensible for Edwards to come back to London tbh. He’s resurrected his chances of having a good career by going to a part of the world where he can focus on his football. He should stay there a few more years and try to reach that next level (in ability and professionalism) before thinking about coming back

I would rather someone buys him than no one, we stand to make at least 20m if he leaves Sporting. Staying at Sporting we lose out completely.

Is he at the level needed to press in this system? How is his work rate? Is he going to do all the hard work out of possession that we are going to need? I have some doubts about those things...but I can be blamed for holding past things against him I guess

Can edwards play as a 10? We do need cover for Maddison.

Here are some comments from his time in England when he was younger.

Daniel Farke (Norwich manager where Edwards was on loan)
"There is no doubt with the ball he is one of our best players but without it, he has to grow up a bit. That was the reason he didn't play for Tottenham.
"He needs to learn a little bit more and be more grown up in his attitude on the pitch and in his behaviour.

Pochettino
"He has authority and behavioural problems, and we have to look at the bigger picture to find out the root cause. There was a time when it would have been seen as impossible for him to play professionally, let alone make it in the Premier League.

"Our challenge is to get him to accept the pathway we've laid out for him, and it's our responsibility to make sure he behaves himself when he trains with the first team (with all the rules and obligations this involves). He has no shortage of talent, but there are gaps to be filled: he has to learn to score ugly, run more and be committed."

Edwards is explosive over short distances (1-20 yards) with decent top speed.

Where as Johnson isn't as explosive over short distances but has extremely fast top speed.

Explosive pace over a short distance is more important in the PL IMO.

I remember those, but I've seen some on here say that his issues are either the same or might even have become worse since. He seems like a hard worker on the pitch though?
