Don't think signing both makes any sense tbh. Neither is a proper number 9 even if Johnson can cover there.
At some point we need some round pegs in round holes and have an established centre forward to compete with and/or take the starting berth from Richarlison.

Yes if we are looking to trim back on the bloated squad it helps to have versatility but getting both Edwards and Johnson is overkill IMO.

Here are some comments from his time in England when he was younger.

Daniel Farke (Norwich manager where Edwards was on loan)
"There is no doubt with the ball he is one of our best players but without it, he has to grow up a bit. That was the reason he didn't play for Tottenham.
"He needs to learn a little bit more and be more grown up in his attitude on the pitch and in his behaviour.

Pochettino
"He has authority and behavioural problems, and we have to look at the bigger picture to find out the root cause. There was a time when it would have been seen as impossible for him to play professionally, let alone make it in the Premier League.

"Our challenge is to get him to accept the pathway we've laid out for him, and it's our responsibility to make sure he behaves himself when he trains with the first team (with all the rules and obligations this involves). He has no shortage of talent, but there are gaps to be filled: he has to learn to score ugly, run more and be committed."

Don't know about you guys but my school report at 17 and my annual review at 24 looked quite different.

He's lived another third of his life, in three different countries.

Not at you but I'm baffled how Spurs fans consider £30m on 22 yr old Orban less risky than £32m on 24 yr old Edwards who has been tearing apart PL and CL level defences (including ours) for the past 2 years.

It makes sense to consider the option with the HG and club trained issues, it makes even more sense if we are trying keep Forest's Johnson valuation a bit more down to earth. Nothing like a realistic alternative to keep them on their toes

Not got the raw pace of Johnson but he's a proper tricky winger in the mould that Ange seems to like.

Concerns would be around his physical aptitude for the PL and maybe attitude? We know Brennan is fine in both of those regards and I fear Edwards could be a bit of a Sancho who just doesn't have the pace or strength to truly succeed in the PL despite being great technically?

Also got fewer league goals for Sporting last season than Johnson got in the PL playing for a much, much weaker team...

Think I'm leaning towards Brennan, although Edwards would be an interesting one.

The only things Edwards has above Johnson are HG and club trained and presumably a lower price with the buy back clause. Those aren't to be sneezed at but if there are still any doubts about his attitude I'd stay away and go for Johnson. We should have a bunch of HG and club trained coming over the horizon fairly soon.

Dier to Sporting, Edwards to us.
Sanchez to Forest, Johnson to us.
Reguillon to Fulham, Tosin to us.

Sorted, job done.

Let him go to Chelsea, they definitely need another winger...
I can see Levy instigating a bidding war with Chelsea to drive Edwards' price up for Chelsea to sign him, and then laughing all the way to the bank to cash in Edwards' sell-on fee. 🤑

Yes this is true.

Edwards at £34m > Johnson ~£50m for me.
Just because we have a 35% sell on fee doesn't mean we should regard the discounted fee as his real cost, because we would be losing that sell-on fee if he were sold to another club. The full fees for Edwards and Johnson are similar, in which case my preference for the money is Johnson

They have wildly different profiles.

Edwards as an elite 1 vs 1 dribbler who can go both sides, commit defences, and pick apart low blocks.

Ange system is based on creating more 1 vs 1 opportunities for the wide players.

Johnson's profile also has it's uses but he'd be equally dangerous on the left.

Arguably more so if he's running across the channel to attack space in behind, given we already have Udogie's 1 v 1 threat giving us balance down the left.

Our front 3 is easily the weakest part of our XI.

We've just sold our best ever player for £100m.

I say let's spend £75m on both, and get back in the CL.

I agree with the above, but has to balanced with the fact that we've been burned recently on Ndombele and Spence. These are instances where the player have looked to turn a corner, and then reportedly caved back into bad habits.

A former manager to Tanguy said "He had a hard time waking up in the morning, he was overweight, and didn’t always present himself seriously. He was so good that we were expecting more from him, more consistency."

Warnock said about Spence: "There are not many players where you can say it’s all up to them personally how far they go – it’s what’s between the ears. He could be playing at a top club in England or in non-league in five years, I don’t know. Application, dedication, all these things come into it."

In this case, we should really have a lot of information and history to go by, with his youth years being at Spurs and the fact that Porro played with him for a year at Sporting. If we are interested, we should definitely ask his opinion on his attitude/application in training, timekeeping, overall behaviour etc.

Well he was at the club since he was 8, so we should know him pretty well.

His Dad went out to Holland and Portugal with him, and he hired his own trainer at Sporting and put the work in to gain significant muscle and speed which has allowed him to kick on.

As for character and concerns on Ndombele and Spence.

Our recent club captain of 10 years got pissed up and drove home 2 days before a game. Still thought of as a model pro.

Edwards is an introverted character. So is GLC.

That said, I have no idea about what he's like in a professional environment.

I just don't think it would be possible to have turned his career around without having grown and learned as a person.

His rumoured price to the Saudi league was €60m last week. With our 35% sell-on clause that would put him at €39m or approximately £34.5m.

We should make Top Trumps cards 😂. What’s his cool factor?
that what fifa is these days. Sorry EA FC basically glorified top trumps probably with a 5 year old making up the stats as well depending on what club players play for.
