Currently on a deal with Inter until June 2017 and possibly leaving during next summer, Croatian international playmaking and offensive midfielder Mateo Kovacic (19) is being surveyed by Tottenham, according to latest rumours. Former Dinamo Zagreb star is already an item of interest for Borussia Dortmund, Chelsea and Arsenal, and his ownership is esteemed around 13.5 million euros

He actually plays as a deep lying playmaker doesn't he? Something we've sorely missed since Modric played for us.

I doubt Inter would sell him even though he doesn't play regularly as he i very young. However IF they where to sell him i doubt we would have much of a chance of getting him. Fantastic talent with great feet, quit inconstant though and can drift out of games. Still, at only 19 there is much development ahead.

Inter seem very keen on Capoue, now I really like Capoue always rated him at Toulouse, but with Sandro now fit and Dembele arguably better defensively than creatively maybe the club are thinking that some kind of swap deal might suit both teams and both players.

Hard to say as so many of these rumours have no substance, but I think it's fair to say we are lacking a playmaking central midfielder despite having a lot of midfielders

Mazzari doesn't like him because he isn't good defensively and he doesn't to want to warm the bench. I think they will sell him.

Really wanted him in to understudy Modric previously... But now... Think it's a risk, he will need time to settle, whereas previously we had 4 of his country mates to he him get use to life in London. Now we have none.

If he's available, we've got to go all out and get him here. We've got far too many static midfielders that don't/can't travel with the ball and/or make anything happen on it. We need someone like him who can travel past 3 or 4 players and then play the killer pass, not a Dembele who runs through an entire midfield (when he wants to) and then passes the ball sideways.

Get rid of Dembele/Paulinho and get this kid in.

I've talked about Kovacic many times on here. He's a star. A sure thing. You don't HAVE to take my word for it, but go ahead and take it. Spurs (and other clubs) missed the boat the first time around. If there's a second chance, take it. Dortmund sent an offer for Kovacic in January but were immediately turned down. But remember, this is when Inter's fans were ready to riot and stopped the Vucinic-Guarin swap.

If Mazzarri stays, then there's a chance Kovacic could leave. At least I'd (really) hope so.

Mazzarri has said from day one that he wants Kovacic to become their Hamsik. A real head-scratcher that. He's not that type of player. He's tried mostly behind the striker in a 3-5-1-1. He has not looked comfortable and has not been given a consistent run in the side. Really strange as he came to Inter last January and immediately stood out. Mazzarri came in and tried to mould him into a different player and almost always finds something to critique him about.

Again, if there's a chance to get him to Spurs, do it. But I think there will be decent competition.

Inter are trying to build a team right now. They won't be selling him.

Under sound logic, they won't/wouldn't. But they are talking about a "youth movement" while Kovacic, Taider, Icardi, Belfodil, etc. are getting pushed down the line. And they have a manager who has shown anything but a willingness to prefer younger players (over his managerial career). Don't confuse logic/sound reasoning with what Inter might actually do.

He is what we are missing in midfield I reckon... Him and Sandro would be a good couple or him Sandro and Dembele would be a nice threesome

I would actually try to use Dembele as a carrot to get him

Agreed. Someone able to pick the ball up in front of the back line and move the ball into a dangerous position in the middle of the pitch is desperately needed. Eriksen can receive it in the final third and create from there, but he has no one to receive the ball from. All he can do at the moment is hope to pick the ball up off the wingers, who at the moment are easily closed as ordered by any manager who's watched even ten minutes of our game film.

Mhmm, I dunno, a 3 of Sandro, him and Dembele would nearly have everything... Break up play in Sandro.. Holding up and strength in Dembele.. Creativity and passing in Kovacic

Or Paulinho, since they expressed interest in him last summer. I'd take that swap in a heartbeat, or even pay them a bit extra to sweeten it.

He's the Modric replacement 2 years too late. I like Capoue and Paulinho but if we can swap one for Kovacic we have to make it happen, just based on respective squads and positional strengths.

For me I'd swap Paulinho... Something about Capoue that I just really really like

Agreed yet again. Capoue was incredible last August, and has struggled to get back in with injuries, being played out of position, and his visible frustration with the rise of Bentaleb. Also don't see him as the type of player to lay down when shit gets tough. Perfect backup to an oft-injured Sandro IMO.
