Guess it links in with Naughton leaving. Random though

He's a RB but can play LB as well apparently, so perhaps a shrewd cover signing if the rumours of Naughton and/or Rose leaving are correct,

Well if we signed Lopes then by the sounds of it we'd have cover for LB/RB. Plus we've got Fryers (LB) and Fredericks (RB) We could cash in on Rose and Naughton.

Money in the bank. First team cover. Youngsters making their way into the first team squad.

Sounds too good to be true!

He has 4 caps for Portugal, and was on loan to Lyon last season. Made 16 appearances

Apparantly fell out with AVB at Porto (before Lopez moved to SL) - so Spurs must seem like an attractive destination !

Clubs: SL Benfica, CD Operário, Rio Ave FC, Porto FC, Real Betis Balompié (loan), SC Braga (loan), Sporting Clube de Portugal, Olympique Lyonnais (loan)

He's been around a few clubs without really settling anywhere, apparantly a decent general prpose RB/LB. As a back up providing Spurs have watched him enough, he could be a decent loan signing to allow Naughton to leave for a decent fee, with a view that in 15/16 that Ryan Fredericks (or the following season perhaps) Kyle Walker-Peters might be experienced enough to be in the squad. The latter could cause some mirth - RB Kyle Walker, back up Kyle Walker-Peters !

Lyon turned down the chance to sign him permanently. I would much rather go for Vrsaljko at Genoa, 22 year old right back who played extremely well at left back for Croatia during the WC.

Looks a decent right back - seems to go forward every opportunity.
He fractured his leg last season - not sure how well he has recovered now.

Seems to make sense bringing in a loan to replace 2 positions and give the "kids" a chance to kick on.

Vrsaljko signed for Sassuolo a week ago or so (gone to Juventus if he proves himself there).

Know nothing about him. If we're bringing in a loan to cover full back positions that makes me hope and think we're putting all our cash into a CB and one other. Also like idea that they want Fredericks to develop and allows us to move on Naughton.

Looked pretty decent in the 3 Lyon games I saw last year. Nothing really stood out though.

I think it's fine business if we sold Naughton and brought in Lopes as the backup on loan.

Vrsaljko has already been sold to Sassuolo. Which is likely better for him anyway, at 22 you should be looking to get more 1st team football instead of acting as a backup. Although they apparently paid only 3.5mil to get him.

Having just Walker, Davies, and Lopes to cover 3 positions would not be good enough over a 4 competition season, even if we have Fryers/Fredericks (neither who are proven).

I think having Walker and Lopes for the right side and Davies and Rose for the left makes a lot more sense, and it allows us to loan Fryers and Fredericks with recall options so that they get playing time (more than they would here).
