We may be fine and have the numbers at CB but if we have a chance to upgrade it then we should, plus how long has Toby got left at top level? It’ll save us a headache of getting in his replacement Later. Sell any surplus CB’s we have eg CCV, Foyth and use the funds raised elsewhere.
It's a matter of priority though. If Ndombele leaves, we've got to get a like-for-like replacement at the creative midfielder position or else we're one Lo Celso injury away from disaster. For me, that has to take priority over upgrading the CBs.

Our defensive record after the restart was largely excellent (Sheffield United match excepted), and that was without any recognized DM and poor play from the right back position. We've addressed both of those areas now so should be even stronger next season.

Aside from replacing Ndombele we also desperately need a striker, which again is clearly a bigger issue than the CB position IMO.

If we can manage to get a legitimate Ndombele replacement, get a striker in, and get Skriniar then fine. But if the Ndombele replacement and/or striker is dependent on the funds his sale would raise then that should be the priority over Skriniar for me.

I agree that we need more creativity in midfield. However, considering that TN has contributed basically nothing so far, its not like we would miss him if he left - unless it was a slam dunk that he would finally get his act together.

Can't we just ask inter for money for ndombele and then use it to buy players from other clubs.

If inter want to sell skriniar or brozovic there's probably a reason, like we have a reason or two to sell ndombele.

Yes, inter Milan have good players but a 28 yo who has never played in the premiership or a slow CB that we don't need shouldn't really be at the top of our list.

Remember van de beek, king, wilson will all cost less than ndombele, so sell him and buy one of them. Easier said than done though.

If we chose to swap Ndombele for Skirniar, it wouldn’t be because it is a position of need. It’d be a jumpstart on getting a long-term Toby replacement in, which we’ll have to do in coming years, and an evaluation by the club that Skirniar is the level of player that you don’t turn down if you have the opportunity.

I don’t know enough about Skirniar as a player and obviously not what the club thinks of him, but that’s what the rationale has to be if we are to go for this swap.

As an aside, there’s rumors in the Italian media this morning that Conte is already intent on moving on Eriksen. Chuck him in the swap deal as well.
Bringing back Eriksen would be interesting if we got another £10-15m on top, but CE doesn't really strike me as the kind of bloke who'd be prepared to eat humble pie.

Dont think Inter have the money. Hence, the push for swaps. They could of course try to sell Skriniar elsewhere first.

Not sure he got the lifestyle change he was after, sitting on Inter’s bench...

I think eriksen is done. Really don't think we will see the best of him again (at any club).

Risky to sign him and see if he can be assed this time round ass well. We do need that type of player though and they are rare.

I agree. I think the chronic abdominal injury that he played through for an entire season for us with virtually no rotation, plus all the qualifiers and then the world cup for Denmark effectively ended his career. He's never had the same zip about him since that injury.

CB are more easily attainable imo however sheer extraordinary talent the one Ndombele has is much harder to get.
Poch mentioned it might take two years/season to full appreciate him.
I don't think we're that club yet to buy ready made. I hope we have patience and give Ndombele time.

You can’t change a players attitude though only they can! All the rumours coming out are that Ndombele’s attitude stinks and he doesn’t out effort in on the pitch or in training!

Personally i’d sell him and use the money to buy players, whether its a CB or a CM etc Mourinho will know what we need and I trust him to get the right players in!

So far im happy with Hojbjerg and Doherty plus Harts a winner as 2nd or 3rd choice keeper and HG!

You'd hope that a €70m fee and £10m salary would get you a ready made player tbf.

Di Marzio is the one reporting that Skriniar has been offered to PSG. Inter would then use the money to buy Kante (who has already agreed terms with Inter).

So Skriniar doesn't join a rival, Chelsea lose Kante and we keep Ndombele. Happy days.

The whole swap deal didn’t make much sense to me anyway. Firstly we’d still need a CM replacement, may need a LB too, so we’d have to again sell to buy someone good enough. Secondly, Jose seems to love Dier and I don’t view Skriniar as as good as Toby. We have Sanchez who’s a good option and Tanganga who needs games.
If we had cash sure, but seeing as we seem to be on an even stricter transfer budget than normal the numbers never added up.

Of course his attitude can change. He's young and immature and allegedly surrounded by bellends. I'm not saying his attitude will change, but it definitely could.
