Exciting news this. Another player with presence and aggression.

I'm not sure we need to move to a back 3.
Liverpool get away with a 4. You'd think we would have to play Sanchez for pace if we stick to a 4 and let the DM slot in to the backline when necessary.
I'm not convinced about the high-line approach though, certainly not at the moment when we haven't got a settled back line.

Is that Hojbjerg’s game though? Must admit from the very limited viewing of him so far it was alarming how much space the opposition were getting in front of our back four.

I agree...i haven't been massively impressed so far. But then again we've been carrying winks and getting dominated on possession, so it's difficult to judge at the moment.

Hojbjerg & Gio are a must N'Dombele needs to find a bit more gas in the tank to cover ground too. I don't think we can provide him the flexibility to be a spare man with the 3 up top.

I like this player a lot. Stereotypical 'Mourinho' defender.

I reckon we will sign Milik on a bosman in January to save funds and loan Deeney in for a season. The funds saved on a striker this summer will be spent on Skriniar.

I'd still wait till some decent uk papers start picking this up. Italian papers always seem to be a bit unreliable, even when its Romano or Di Marzio

Not quite as bad but nearly on par with the Turkish press when it comes to reporting rumours.. The Bellotti rumour the other week case in point.

Like to see Ali or Dan KP report something about it.. Then I might start to believe!

Personally have never rated Di Marzio or Romano for spurs news. I’m sorry but it’s not possible he has sources at most clubs. It’s clear he doesn’t have spurs sources and he just jumps on the bandwagon at the end.

Still kinda like the guy, even though the here we go shit is getting proper old now:LOL:

Everything I've seen of him, his instinct is to 'go forward' and break up play.

Rather than drop and cover.

Getting a bit worried when reading about lack of pace. We already signed Höjbjerg and Doherty that lacks that extra level pace.

From my view, only in the second half v Saints, did Hojbjerg actually play the sitting role though. Against Everton he wasn’t there, he was trying to push on and get the ball forward, due to lack of anyone else doing it. First half v Saints it seems as if him and Winks didn’t know who was meant to be doing what in there, almost in each other’s way. Not so much a double pivot, more like two doors opening on to each other. As I said though, second half he did sit. He looked much better for it too. He’s a ball winner, closes down the passing lanes, and generally reads the play very well.

You’d think that in Doherty and Reguilon, we want both fullbacks to bomb on, meaning we’d go with three at the back. Maybe, the idea is a bit more like Poch’s system than we thought? Just without Hojbjerg dropping in to make a three, but at least still covering the space in front of the two CB’s?

Poch played a back four with full backs bombing on. He also played three at the back with wing backs. We won’t be on the front foot as much as those teams, but it certainly gives us options.

If you Google Skriniar right now it says:

Milan Škriniar is a Slovak professional footballer who plays centre-back for Premier League side Tottenham Hotspur and the Slovak national team.

Seems to be the way Mourinho wants him to play. I was hoping we'd bring in a Wanyama type or the dream would have been Zakaria.

This was one of ny first thoughts in the match against Southampton. It was almost as Winks and Höjbjerg didn't know their roles entirely.

Struggles in a high line and Conte's system apparently.

We play a high line more than people think. I'm sceptical if he's not fast enough to deal with counters and fast PL attackers. Are there any top defenders in the PL that aren't quick nowadays?

He would be my pick of those CB options and maybe Inter are willing to let him go but if we're talking silly money (unless they want Dele in part-x) then I think I'd rather stick with what we have for now.

We haven't had much time to see what a fully functioning PEH can do to improve our defence. We have 3 'top' CBs plus Davies and Tanganga, Foyth (currently).

To me, bringing in Skriniar would suggest that José doesn't really rate one of Dier/Sanchez/Toby

Mourinhos CL winning central defensive players were slow as fuck - Walter Samuel, Lucio, Chivu, Montoya, Cambiasso and Zanetti. Mourinho played them very deep and they conquered Europe. 6 months later Benitez had the same defence playing a high line and Bale obliterated them.

We are very bad in air and at set piece defending, KMJ, Dias, Škriniar are similar types and it's a good sign that coaching/scouting recognize our weaknesses.

I think we conceded fewest goals from corners last season.
