It's been on Ssn for the last few days but just seen it properly, the 7 yearold kai went for a tour of biy camp and got a trial! Impressive I though and just seen an interview where he slates english football and wants to play for barca, but at the end it said one english club may be in luck, he like spurs also!

It's a straight head to head with Barca for his signature then :)

There have been and still are these football prodigies nurtured and snapped up while they are still schoolboys, anything from 8 to 14 years old.

Only a very few make it to the top flight. Perhaps too much too soon? Football is littered with these failures.

I'm trying to remember the name of the kid signed up by a Dutch club - can't remember if it was Feyenoord or Ajax - and he was said to be something incredibly special but I don't think he's even playing now. If he is, I've heard nothing and he must be in his teens by now. Someone may remember who he is, as well as others who have fallen by the wayside after much hype as youngsters.

I see that sons of Maldini and Zidane are rising stars so there may well be something genetic there, but they do seem to be exceptions. Jordi Cruyff didn't exactly live up to the amazing talent of his father.

That leads me along a tangent about sons of footballing fathers and that deserves another thread altogether, as it's a fascinating subject in itself.

Sonny Pike. Was signed by Ajax. He said he basically wasn't given any help at Ajax to deal with the pressures etc. Got disillusioned with the game and gave up. Parents divorced over the pressure of it all as well. Think he went/or is going to University up in Scotland doing sport psychology.

There have of course, been many more like him.

Sonny Pike. I think the pressure got too much for him and he just gave up playing altogether.

It's difficult to know how players at 7 will do but if he could get into the Barca academy it would be great for him. Not everyone makes it but he'd certainly be in the right place to give himself a chance.

Thanks guys for the reminder re. Sonny Pike.

Having had a peek on Wikipedia about him, I didn't realise he was Mark Falco's nephew!

He apparently attended Dundee University after he stopped playing.

Sonny Pike was from Enfield where I grew up, there was so much hype around this kid when we was in primary school as we were the same age and he went to one of our rival schools. My PE teacher used to wax lyrical about him, I also heard the same thing that he was up in Scotland somewhere, he must be in his late 20s by now.
