What the hell is it with people who just see stats? If a player don't score or assist a lot he's shit? Fuck me, Pirlo might as well retire he's clearly not good enough since he rarely gets over 10 goals or assists a season. In fact it's only been since he's moved to Juve that he's managed to get over 10 assists and this is the winter of his career.

Pirlo can't header, he's slow, not great in the tackle, doesn't grab lots of goals (most of them are free kicks), doesn't get tons of assists (again, a lot from set plays) yet is one of the best central midfield players of the last 10 years. The guy has transformed Juve back into a championship winning side and makes them tick.

There's more to a player than goals and assists and a playmaker is exactly what we're missing. A lot of people on here are desperate for us to sign Moutinho claiming that he'd be a revelation for the club as he's the playmaker we're missing. They may be right! Check out his goals/assists tally over his career, in 254 starts he's had 28 goals/22 assists for club and country over 9 seasons. Modric in comparison has in 228 starts had 29 goals/29 assists for club and country over 7 seasons (better tally than Moutinho). Fuck 'em both, they're obviously shit...

Did anyone call him shit?

Fact is, if Modric had never been to spurs before I'd want him signed up now. We just disagree about what WC is.

I couldn't agree more. Voted worst signing of the year by RM fans. He was at our level but he thought he was too good for us but he's found the step up too much. Bale on the other hand will probably out grow us ( unless we start challenging for titles) so fair enough he if goes.

Not his fault that the manager has buried his head up his own arse.

He only came on in the 57th minute............Enough said.

FFS. We're not saying if you don't get goals and assists you are shit. We're responding to the claims that he is WC. For me, to be considered a WC attacking playmaker you have to add goals and assists to your game. The guy was at our level, shown by the fact of how important he was for us and also shown by the fact he can't cut it at a higher level. Pirlo has won everything he can win. You think modric will be at RM long? They'll get rid by next year and go to the prem

Fair enough guys, perhaps I was a little over-zealous, sorry if you guys think I was accusing you of saying he's shit, I wasn't getting at that. I do rate him highly as you can see and I do think he is WC too. I don't feel that just because you can't make the first team of one of the two biggest clubs in the world and be a bit part player would suggest that you're not WC. I think there are plenty of players that could be considered as WC that may not do well at Real or Barca.

Yaya Toure is WC in my eyes but was struggling at Barca near the end of his tenure there. Vidal, van Persie, Silva, Mata are other players I consider to be at the top of their field but again may not cut it at those two teams but are doing it for sides that can/should compete at that level. It's all about being at the right club and perhaps Real isn't the one for Modric. He could go to Utd next year and absolutely rip the league apart, thus showing that he is world class. Hypothetical yes, but I think it's a valid point.

tbf Modric has been playing pretty well for madrid recently. Anyway he was never bad, just fans thought he was a bad signing because he cost far too much in their eyes. Also he is being played in his natural position now days.

I wouldn't trust the Real Madrid fans' opinions TBH. These are the same fans who wave white flags at their team when they're not being entertained, it's like a theater over there ffs.

Well, the madrid fans opinions seem to be pretty positive of modric recently, if forums are to be taken seriously. Most think he shhould be a starter on his form, particularly against weaker oposition, the disagreements are more to do with where to play him, rather then if.

Does that mean that 0 goals and 2 assists Xabi Alonso isn't world class then?

He's world class. There can be no doubt. Thats why Real Madrid were willing to part with £30m for him. He's a fantastic footballer and I'd jump at the opportunity to get him back for £20m.

Indeed, the biggest club in the world chased him all summer because they wanted him badly.
