Fascinating and way beyond my pay grade.
You sometimes make it sound as if everything that happened
was part of some Pochettino masterplan.
When as you will know a lot of what happens
is accident, luck and happenstance.

Was going a goal down part of the plan?
Rose who was bamboozled by Hazard
and Walker who completely lost Costa were culpable.
Terry's failure to close down Kane for the first was pathetic.

In Journalistic terms shorter sentences and paragraphs
is the usual advice given to make it punchier.

Personally, I'd break it into clear sections i.e. pre match expectations, a resume of the actually game and then pick out some tactical points that you want to highlight. At the moment it seems to muddle between.
I appreciate it's a lot of work, but just for your own benefit, how about reviewing a couple of non spurs games - then you could be less involved & more objective.
It's great work tho.

My Norton antivirus doesn't like the mytottenhamway website. It says it is a phishing site. Does anyone else get this problem? Is it a concern?

I really enjoy your tactical reports. It's definitely interesting to read a detailed match analysis evidenced with diagrams etc. You're the spurscommunity's very own Gary Neville!

Keep them coming!

I'm going to disagree with the Dembele bit.

It does come across as trying to push an agenda. A lot of articles about us getting rid of players, throw in the same players with outdated critique; Paulinho, Naughton, Dembele and Chiriches are always out the door but they have all proven useful and certainly there is no need to chuck them out at this stage when the squad is gelling. Both Dembele and Paulinho have done really well in their limited sub appearances of late. Dembele has made many forward passes and been a nuisance. Yeah, he doesn't run pass like a Mason would, but Mason would also be spraying passes out and losing possession a lot more. Mason's finishing is also rather rudimentary so we need more of what Dembele offers especially against Chelsea. We already have Eriksen, Chadli, Townsend and Walker/Rose/Bentaleb who do run past and should do more often. It'd be great if Dembele had the confidence to, but he's not just "sideways and backwards pass" which is a real lazy critique just like Paulinho "ineffective and doesn't do anything" and Chiriches "always a move away from a fuck up".

Rather than try and give out any tips, all I'd say is keep going with it. Keep watching plenty of football and you'll keep improving, whilst developing your own style.

LukeBB, you do an awesome job. Now, the fact that you receive criticism isn't a bad thing. It means you are getting noticed. The work of nobel winners will still attract negative feed back. A part of being good at what you do is being fine with those who don't like what you do.

Now; I can't help you with the football side of things, you surpass me. But being a writer, you are welcome to PM me about your upcoming piece, and I'll see what I can do on the actual writing, style, fluidity. I'll give you three tips for now.

* Complexity is not necessarily the same as eloquence. Which of those do you think is the most important?

* In fact, one way to improve is to write on forums like SC and on Twitter, too. It helps you put coherent thoughts and ideas in fewer words, and to get your valid points across effectively.

*The most important thing though, is let the negative feed back generate a positive "go" within your self.

Your pieces, much like recent Spurs performances, are appreciated due to the hard work, effort and moments of style. Hopefully both keep developing positively over the coming months and years.

Keep up the good work!

I get the same thing, so far I haven't encountered any problems with it so you should be fine.

Looking forward to reading this on the iPad when I have my afternoon poo....which, coincidentally, will be just after today's matinee showing of the Chelsea match :)

Yes, I spend a lot of my time when writing my pieces trying to find a balance between: how much of the game do I cover? Can I finish this piece in a relevant time i.e before the next game or before people get sick of reading about this match? Will people be able to read all of this before they get bored? Is it too short? Am I getting it all correct and is it understandable?

It does my head in sometimes and thats why I don't do pieces on everyone of our games, otherwise I'd need to quit college and my job ;)

I really enjoy your pieces funnily enough the other day I was thinking what happened to Luke :)

LukeBB, I've always been a fan of your work and missed reading over the last few months your reports on SC. Yes I know that I can go to twitter and read them but for some weird reason I've never been interested in that element of the social media.
Even now that I've seen the game three times your reports make so much sense of what happened during the game to certain players at certain moments. Keep up the hard work and I'm quite sure you'll soon find a slot for yourself as an analyst. Who knows maybe even Mauricio will take you on, wouldn't that be something special?

Great post Luke. Personally I don't agree with an above post that you need to comment on every goal. In this country all Sky, MoTD, etc ever do is comment on the key moments and goals without ever actually providing the basic tactical analysis that underpinned the balance of the game. I think this is really interesting and is where you differentiate yourself most from other posters, although obviously it depends on what you want to convey. Goals and key moments are useful, but more to illustrate your preceding analysis. Therefore to avoid readers thinking it strange that you only commented on one or two goals (rather than all), after you have done your analysis on how Tottenham set out to negate Chelsea's system, perhaps instead of saying "now let's look at Harry Kane's goal", perhaps say something more along the lines "Kane's opening goal is a good illustration of...". Personally I think that would also help the flow of the article a bit more too.

As an aside I write analysis for fund managers and stock market investors and am constantly being reminded that the average reader has a really short attention span and wants to get to the point as fast as possible. Up to you whether you want to adopt these but I'm a big believer in breaking up big blocks of text (which you do) but also including sub-titles to provide even more structure. This helps the reader focus on the points that interest them the most. One other thing that you may want to consider is including a short paragraph at the start, sort of like an executive summary with a short summary of your analysis. If you tell the reader at the start what you will tell them, it's another way to make the information more digestible, like if you were giving a presentation.
