It was pretty obvious it was going to be Sonny, no real surprises here. Happy for him

Sonny clapping along to his own speech.

I think I’m old school when it comes to captains. Even though Ledley wasn’t a shouter, I’ve always preferred a Keane type character who will urge everyone in the changing room to kick the shit out of the opposing team just before they walk out on to the pitch. Son will never do that of course but he’ll be a leader in a different sense. Romero can still shout stuff in the background.

Son: Let’s do this lads, I want to see a smile on all your faces.
Everyone else: YEAAAAHHHH
Romero: DON’T FORGET TO STAMP ON AT LEAST 3 PLAYERS’ FACES!
Everyone else: What?
Romero: What?
Everyone else:……..
Romero: AND SMILE TOO!

Sonny’s the right choice. Committed to club, proved himself on pitch, played through injury and speaks better than Lloris and Kane (love them both)

In my head I'm picturing Cuti but hearing Roy Kent.

I remember a couple of the bad lads at school getting made prefects. I guess that Ange is hoping to instill a bit of responsibility in Romero. Whether it works, who knows but I can understand that as reasoning.

If Sonny gets back on form then I'll be much more upbeat about our season after a couple of months. He's ride or die anyway after resigning during a very low ebb so you know he's committed.

I'd like to think being captain will give him a needed incentive to get back there.

Had to be him.
Yep no brainer for this season, can always re-assess next season etc but the right choice, love Maddison as VC and think Romero as VC could help him to calm down a bit too, Ange knows exactly what he’s doing.

Sonny clapping his own speech was proper lols bless but you’d run through walls for Sonny as your captain no matter what he says he just makes you smile and want to do yourself and him proud.

He's brilliant isn't he. Just what we need at this juncture.

Why the fuck is the Sonny thread in the Transfer Rumours section?

2 things i noticed from the Instagram post of Ange announcing Son

1. as much as we love Son, he doesnt look captain material. Not authoritative and probably a bit too playful that he is seen as a buddy rather than a captain character

2. the claps seemed subdued.

Maybe I'm reading too much into this.

You are. That’s a huge moment and I think the clapping shows he’s human and probably a little overwhelmed. He’ll rise to the occasion and the players respect him.

Who would you have picked? Dier? Davies?
