2 things i noticed from the Instagram post of Ange announcing Son

1. as much as we love Son, he doesnt look captain material. Not authoritative and probably a bit too playful that he is seen as a buddy rather than a captain character

2. the claps seemed subdued.

Maybe I'm reading too much into this.
Maybe. I think it was a thoughtful and respectful response from the lads. Harry just left, and they’re all feeling it. So is Lloris. Dier was overlooked, and PEH would seem like another natural selection for vice captain, but this seems to indicate he is leaving as well.

The selection of Romero is very clever. They want him to grow up and take ownership of the back 4. That’s his unit now. And perhaps they feel, he will rise to that challenge. Be more vocal. Lead by example. Less rash. Less switching off. More accountability. Shows that they trust him.

He has basically picked a captain for each area of the field: Son (attack), Maddison (midfield) and Cuti (defense). All points to Ange yet again demonstrating a wonderful leadership trait… which is to empower others to lead. Give them belief in their responsibility to drive their teammates onward.

I really have so much respect for this guy. And regardless of how things turn out, as a human being, he is highly admirable and commendable. Has every attribute you’d want in a leader.

Yep. Agree with all that you’ve stated.
I might add a couple of things which I believe reflect Ange’s worldly perspective: time in an East Asian country, ie, Japan - (broadly speaking) culturally more inclined towards à collective & holistic approach; an interconnectedness between the parts (team), rather than a group of individuals. Appreciate I maybe going ‘deep dish’ on this; and to have a (first?) non-westerner as the captain of a PL team is quite à wonderful thing. I think Sonny will embrace the role.
Here’s a couple of links to how west v east think & approach life. Personally found it extremely fascinating when I first came across it

You are. That’s a huge moment and I think the clapping shows he’s human and probably a little overwhelmed. He’ll rise to the occasion and the players respect him.

Who would you have picked? Dier? Davies?
Also, with there being a camera, maybe everyone felt a bit more self conscious.

He certainly looked overwhelmed by the news which probably shows how much he loves the club

Very disappointed with Ange for overlooking Dane. He could’ve been our very own Captain Scarlett

I’ll get my coat

PEH. He has great leadership qualities. But i guess he wont be staying for long, or Ange feels will not be a regular starter.

Sorry if already asked. Was just wondering what was happening with lloris? I see he still has the no 1 shirt. With whiteman and Forster on the injury list. Is he going to be number 2 at least temporarily, or is he out completely

Lovely little detail in the Athletic that it was Son’s idea to huddle in front of the away fans:

As soon as the meeting had finished, he was thinking of little changes he could make to the group’s dynamic. On Saturday night, he sent a text to Maddison suggesting that, before the Brentford game the following day, the team should perform the pre-match huddle in front of the away fans rather than in the centre circle to strengthen the bond between the players and the supporters. Who knows how much things like this affect performance, but it certainly went down well with the fans, who were in full voice throughout — as Postecoglou acknowledged afterwards.”

Apparently back training today. Still looking for a solution to leave - but I do wonder if there is a bigger issue with Forster that we are not aware about.

Said this for a while but breaking up the stale poor leadership group of : Lloris,Kane,Dier,PEH has been needed for a long time and replacing it with fresh young or positive energy is massive for us.

If we can sell PEH that’ll be the whole entire leadership group gone/on their way out: Kane, Lloris, Dier, PEH.

Much much needed major refresh imo.

Completely fresh new chapter.

It was evident to most when watching games how little leadership was on the pitch so all for this

I wanna mention about this as well, but more on case of, barring Kane, why there were so few takers for them, considering they are so called the leaders.
