Looking through the Poch posts when it got close to us hiring him makes embarrassing reading, I get we didn't know how well he would do back then, one guy would much rather have had De Boer than Pinocchio.
Its almost like someone we dont *think* (with all of our tactical and time traveling knowledge) can do well and maybe hasn't won everything in a top league couldn't actually achieve anything.
I guess you all know the point I am trying to make ;)

Gets boring reading the same old tropes in here, that "people at kidding themselves", "farmers league", "journeyman" and suchlike.

I don't think many are happy that we're looking at Postecoglu, especially with who's been available so far but just because some are engaging in a discussion and refusing to be completely negative about the bloke, doesn't mean that's "beyond belief" or somesuch other shite that's being spouted.

If we could cut out the bickering and blank but sweeping statements, this thread would be a lot more informative and enjoyable.

Big name manager.
SC type 1: we are massive this is who we need
SC type 2: Levy doesn’t know what he’s doing - where’s the blueprint?

Lower reputation manager:
SC type 1: we are massive, this is an insult to us
SC type 2: Levy still doesn’t know what he’s doing - he’s the blueprint to build our club anyway

SC type 3: we have no director of football and the cycle will never end
SC type 4: all choices are Nuno

All: Levy has undermined every decision the club has and will make since the interim debacle, and arguably since Nuno-gate. Just make it stop.
People have lost their heads and just see everyone as negative now.

If it’s Big Ange or L.Enrique I’ll be very happy with either and will see how they get on.

My worry is it won’t be one of them and it’ll be someone who is far worse and not such a good fit, if people are worrying about Big Ange or L.Enrique then I can’t wait to see the meltdown if it’s not one of them and someone else (not Naglesmann) 😂 🤦‍♂️

Far too much doommongering and catastrophising going on without knowing the full details and context.

Nagelsmann unlike Conte has a history of working with a limited budget

Don't get it twisted managers don't want to come here not because of our budgets. Its because Levy won't let them spend money on who they feel is necessary

Levy thinks he knows what's better for the manager than the manager themselves and the instances when he's right, inflate him(traore for £45m)
Not sure that's true anymore. Nagelsmann has just managed Bayern Munich, he has levelled up now. I doubt he's looking to go back to his former way of working. It's natural in football if you go from a smaller job to a larger one your demand grows. Its like saying Conte did it on a small budget at Bari once. There's no way Nagelsmann will only require a limited budget. This is the most expensive league in the world and he will want to win things. All the top managers know what it will take to achieve that. Levy is about the only one who thinks it can be done with limited spend. If he wanted to do things with little spend I'm sure Levy would be more lenient. Similar to allowing Redknapp more control because his signings matched Levys love for a bargain. End of the day the issues come when a managers targets (Bastoni/Skriniar eyc) are too much for Levy. No chance Nagelsmann wants a Lenglet on loan type signing.

I guess if we're going down the more experienced route with Ange or Luis Enrique it could be good to keep Mason as number 2. Rather than a long term young manager get a more experienced one and keep Mason developing alongside them as potentially the long term replacement. As long as they actually last long enough that is, could maybe see Mason evolve as the young up and comer in a couple of years. Get someone with experience to turn the club around and get back to our principles. Maybe then creates a better platform for Mason rather than the mess we are in right now.

I think it's getting to the point it won't make a difference for Mason. The objection will be he is too young or not managed. He can't win. In 18 months when the next manager is sacked people will be "yay Mason can show what he can do", and then say he not ready when it comes to next manager.

Not sure how many managers need to be sacked before Mason is worth a punt.

Funnily enough I looked through some old FB chats with a few mates last week back when poch was early on at spurs. I said poch is a coach not a manager and doesn't seem to be able to get the players playing his style, he might as well go.

Shows what I knew, and nowadays I'm a massive fan of the man. 😂 Another in the long list of reasons why it makes sense to give people time rather than write them off immediately!

This thread is genuinely exhausting to read through. I find myself scrolling through every post in a desperate attempt to see any concrete news or itk. All I see is people repeating the same bollocks over and over ad infinitum...

I need a break from this forum 🤣
Disagree. I think it's essential that we all sit down, take a deep breath and start again, debating all the pros and cons of the same 5 or 6 candidates as we have for the last few months.

But with the same arguments, but much more text, more shouting and more memes this time.

Read the player threads too... How many of them were getting slaughtered prior to Poch and then people say Poch inherited an amazing team.

This is why I sat get a positive, football playing manager and they will get a tune from the players. We have good enough players to be top 6 and beyond, but we hire managers that play football that doesn't suit them

Right now It would probably be better for Mason to try his wings elsewhere for a while, and manage a club in the Championship. And if he impresses there, he can then be a serious contender the next time when the Spurs job becomes available.

You say people underestimate how poor Scottish football is then use Celtic struggling in the as a stick to beat Big Ange with… 🤔
Yeah that’s right, they got absolutely ripped to bits by the side that Rangers beat over 2 legs the season before. Anyway, my point was that he showed no plan B, which I did state.

He wouldn’t get a job in the championship.

Yeah don't buy the Nuno comparisons.

He was the ultimate compromise candidate - real bottom of the barrel stuff - and was pressured by Levy and Paratici to play a style of football and formation that he was fundamentally ill-suited to play because Levy had promised the fans positive football before Paratici turned up.

From what I've read and seen of Ange he's nothing if not his own man. If Levy & co start telling him what to do on the pitch he'll promptly tell them to fuck off and look elsewhere or stay at Celtic. He'll instill the principles he believes in and try to get us playing positive, attacking football. Maybe we'll get battered but at least there will be singular vision and intent rather than the broken contradiction that was Nuno's football.
I think this is fair comment.

There's worse appointments we could make, certainly in terms of likability and play style. Would he better than Nuno? Absolutely. But I think we have to accept that no one has any strong idea whether Postecoglou is the next Poch or the next Roberto Martinez, and that's where the risk is.

Enrique is a safer bet in that sense.

Had to share this - first mention of Gallardo, albeit slight for @Ghost Hardware by Sami Mokbel
Just saw this on Twitter. Trying not to get my hopes up, like you say its very tentative but got to say tho, now I really really hope Ange turns us down. 😂

I just read this about Big Ange: https://www.coachesvoice.com/cv/ange-postecoglou-celtic-australia/ (which I’m sure has been posted before)

He’s a lot more tactically adaptable than I thought he was. He’s played 4231, 3421, 343, 433, mid block, low block, and high press at various times throughout his career. Basically adapting to the strengths of the squad he inherits.

It definitely makes me feel a lot more positive about him. I had him down as a Pep disciple who would be hell bent on playing a 433 high press that could potentially be caught out in a tougher league with a squad which isn’t the best in the division.
