Ah the intangible assurances that mean different things to different people and always end in tears

Good on him. I'd be requesting the same, and frankly I'm sure he knows that he's the clear top candidate for the role so has the right to flex his muscles a bit.

"If Spurs do look to replicate the Arsenal way, who in turn are only replicating the Pochettino way with smarter recruitment, better backing and the silverware to boot, then Mason technically would be the closest thing to an Arteta clone, having been an assistant only before."

Great line from Alasdair Golds latest article .
What silverware?

I just think he doesn't want to accept he's been getting it wrong, and any half decent prospective coach with ambition will be pointing this out in spades to him before taking the job. He's got this utopian view of how football should work financially, and maybe he's right. It might very well be that things should be as he dreams it should. The problem is everyone else working in football accepts it is what it is, and gets on with it so nothing lines up.
I’m generally a Levy supporter, but I can believe this, and I also feel, if he is waiting for new FFP rules to level the playing field, he is in for a rude awakening.

This just makes me want him even more. As far as I'm concerned the first question Levy should ask in an interview is "do you trust me?" and anyone who responds with "yes" should be ruled out immediately.

My wife would like Xabi hired - that is all
My wife definitely wants Poch back. She would always perk up when he was on the screen. I’ve got more of a Martin Jol vibe going myself these days which doesn’t impress her at all. 😀

Yeah makes 100% sense on Nagelsmann's part. Would be a fool to fall for Levy's bullshit.

But equally, it seems like everyone is angry at Levy for not immediately promising Nagelsmann everything he wants - which is exactly the mistake we made with Conte.

We all know Levy's a nightmare, but I'd prefer him at least be honest with prospective managers rather than having a repeat of the last cycle all over again when he reneges on his promises after a year of blowing smoke up their arse.

In Mr T's words, come to a stage where I pity the fool who takes the managers job under Levy.

Unless you see the job as a stepping stone and/or a chance to enhance your own profile and happy being a yes man, I dont know why anyone would want to work under that cabbage Levy. Well suppose picking up a big salary while not expected to win any silverware and just challenge for 4th is an attraction.

I dear not say anything. What a disaster. Mr D Levy, would go to the barbers for a haircut, then realise he has no hair. He wanted Nagelsmann, thought he could kid. Óops convince him to trust his way of doing things. Promises but no commitment. The remit is we have good posy (players) we have spent a lot of money on. Surely they can get a tune out of them. Oh, btw we will discuss a budget after you sign with us. This is what we are faced with. Now let’s find a manager who I can work with. Names please? Honestly, this is what we are up against.
Good heavens

We still need to learn to take EVERYTHING with a big pinch of salt. No one can tell the fans exactly what is happening other than the people directly involved.

Newspapers, Articles, Twitter (especially fucking Twitter), ITK, the more respected journalists… none of it is 100% guaranteed. You’re 99% of the time not reading the absolute truth of the situation so to pin all your hopes on parts of it is why you then get upset and annoyed when that bit doesn’t work out.

It could be an absolute clusterfuck (it certainly has been in the past), it could be that they are literally in negotiations and they take time. It’s bot always as simple as you want that manager, you ask him out, he says yes. There’s a lot to go through. It doesn’t help that we’re at the end of a season where a lot of managers who have no affinity to spurs may want to see what comes up in the summer. It’s only because we’re all Spurs fans that we assume they should just say yes.

I do think we would be better off with Levy not running the footballing side, because I think over time enough decisions have turned out badly that we need a change. Equally, it’s far too easy to assume that because we haven’t got a manager yet (again, awkward time of the season) that it must be his fault and he’s dragging his heels and he’s doing this… and he’s doing that… I get it, no Levy could be a great thing for us, but you can’t just take it as read 100% because it was on the internet.

It’s worth discussion, but it’s not worth standing on the cliff edge yet.
problem is .. if he drags it out too long.. the best options are taken.

take too long to appoint the new manager dof etc.. and again we'll end up with nuno mk2 or worse

Sounds like Julian is a sensible bunny

And our twat of a leader now realises that and that's a red flag for him.

#levyout
There really isn't any real reason not to go for him at this point. If all the stories are true and he's keen to come then the only explanation it doesn't happen at this point is Levy doesn't like the terms that JN wants. And that in itself is not a justifiable reason unless the terms are truly obscene which i doubt they would be. At least not obscene to anyone other then Levy.

Thing is, you look at the list of candidates there are some very promising managers and some that I think would be good options for us De Zerbi, Enrique, Slot etc would be solid options who could do a good job here. But imo, even tho he isn't perfect and i do think we need to be carful about over estimating his ability, Nagelsmann is just on that level above to the point it would be really silly not to go for him as long as he wants to come. Aside from Gallardo (who is still believe is the best option for us) there really isn't a better suited manager to us currently.

Whilst I think its always good to do due diligence and look at other targets, if JN wants to come then it really should be as simple as taking every possible step to wrapping him up. Much like BM did when they wanted Tuchel. Now i realise we aren't as big a club as BM, but I don't really think there is much to be gained by talking to someone like Alonso when the best candidate is there and wanting to come.

Totally trusted Levy's due diligence when it came to picking the right door knobs for the doors at the stadium but on footballing matters it's a different matter.

How effective are contracts regarding things like transfer budgets and wages anyway? Seems like there are too many moving parts. If our first 10 choices for CB reject us do we still have to be willing to pay full whack and top wages for our 11th choice just to fulfill the obligations of the contract?

Sure the Levy fan club will herald it as a genius move to appoint Mason. Then tell us about how well the club is run financially and better the devil you know shit 😀

I don't think Levy actually has a fan club. There are just some who aren't as rabidly Levy Out as others. He seems to be doing a pretty good job driving a lot of them to the other side of the fence though.

To be fair, if he has watched our last few games, no surprise he'd want contractual assurances. If I was him, I'd throw in making sure Dier is out the door before his start date as one of the assurances to.

Sorry but until we are close to appointing a new Manager all the mass panic in here is pointless.

We were 99% about to appoint Fonseca previously and that came completely out of the blue, who knows who Levy will pull the trigger on this time but I think lessons will have been learnt in terms of the type of Manager we want to hire even if the process behind the scenes is a bit messy again.

Maybe we should have two threads:
1) Information on who is close to actually becoming the next Spurs Manager
2) A thread for everyone to wet the bed and repeat the same lines and panic and negativity over and over whilst nothing has actually changed or progressed

There, sorted :)

Have a good day all.
