If true, why were we so beholden to Mendes and what has changed since?

I don't think the candidates Paratici sought out were as leftfield as some people make out. He looked to the Italian league, which is hardly a shock given his background. Finally, he settled on Nuno, who was a continuity option given the style of football we played under Mourinho.
Saw him as an easy route to some decent deals, until he shafted us on Luis Diaz and now we won't work with him, wasn't it?

Ask Levy, my guess is fear of super long COVID lockdown and having to pay off stadium without any stadium revenue. What had changed? COVID is a thing of the past for the most part, and now we generate much more money. In uncertain COVID times idea was probably to use super agents to get few players (still failed to bring Traore). Arsenal were doing similar thing with Joorabchian.

Somehow it just doesn't come across to Mr Levy that all these years of sacking compensation plus the possibility of paying other managers' release clause were actually amounting to more than the fee millions he's trying to scrimp from getting our managers' targets.

If so, it's just another shambolic way to run a football club, in my opinion. It's effectively handing over decisions about our footballing philosophy to the whims of an agent.

Brazil was probably listening to Tony Cascarino on Sat morning when he was saying we should go for Kompany. When you look at the job he has done you could make a case for it.
In 2017 Cascarino did say that Arteta would be a top manager .Well before he got the Arsenal job.
Poch also tried tried to get him to Spurs. Poch knew him well from PSG.
Cascarino is well worth listening to on Sat and Sun mornings on Talksport . Also writes in the times and on their pod. Probably doesn’t get a tv job because he’s always in the casino.
Best pundit by miles.

Kompany would be interesting, but we'd just be keeping the seat warm for City until Pep leaves.

He's a shoo-in for that job if he keeps doing well.

I'm all for smart risk but Kompany feels a bit early. He failed at Anderlecht and is doing a great job at Burnley. Another problem is when City pick up the phone...

Not too long ago, people talked about not hiring Gerrard because it's only a matter of time before he becomes the next Liverpool boss.

It's way too early to start assuming Kompany would do such a good job here that we would lose him to City. It's much more likely we'd end up sacking him for not meeting our expectations than him leaving us for City.

Alan Brazil on Talksport saying he's heard we are after Vincent Kompany.
Sounds like a guess with the Burnley transfer embargo news. X club likely needs a new manager in the summer + Y club has a problem = Y's manager linked to X.

Nobody is assuming anything. When hiring someone you need to look at all scenarios, successful, unsuccessful, what happens on either scenario? If you aren't then you're not doing a very thorough job.

i do worry that paratici isn’t the best person to choose the next coach. Gatusso is a huge red flag, not just for the off pitch stuff but also the style and quality. Anyone know what his appointments at juve were?
I think he's got a great eye for players but a very questionable eye for managers. Certainly managers that will suit a given team.

I'm sure he was heavily involved in the decision to move away from Allegri and bring in Sarri then Pirlo at Juve. Sarri's a good manager at the right club but was an awful fit for Juve while Pirlo was a massive punt that didn't work out.

Pivoting from Fonseca to Gattuso was a strange decision on so many levels. Just boggles the mind.

I understand that. But if he does such a good job that City tap him up, it would be a better appointment than 70 or 80% of ENIC appointments over the last twenty years.

He must have come on a bit since his train wreck with Matthew Syed on SSN talking about Abrahomovic. Still cracks me up🤣

He looks like a very promising manager but for me there are just better option's out there. Like you say, I think we should take a smart risk but I think managers like Gallardo, Postecoglue, Di Zerbi, Enrique would make much more sense in that category and two of those 4 are currently free and i would bet Postecoglue wouldn't be too hard to get.
