Yup, hasn't Russell Martin, a passionate and fairly likeable young coach (as far as i'm aware) being playing good football in the Championship with Swansea? The Championship is a higher rated league than the SPL after all. Why not get him in, if the gulf in level doesn't matter anymore? I'm not saying Ange won't step up, but nobody can truthfully provide any evidence that he definitely will.

Do you have the same pressures at Swansea as you do one of the most recognised and well supported clubs in world football?

I wonder if Ange would look at bringing Carter-Vickers back, seems he's been a pivotal player for him and about the best player in the league for his position.

There's a fighting cock podcast with an Australian reporter who made the point that many thought he would bring a-league players to Celtic and he opted for a few J-League players due to the higher standard of the league.

He then made the point that he probably wouldn't bring many from SPL here if he got the job, which I agree with. I can't see him demanding Celtic players, but more so just working with our set up and scouts

I just watched a bit of Aussies rules on Sky to get a feeling about what this potential appointment can bring to the Club.

if what i saw is anything to go by Big Anges‘ tactics are going to be revolutionary - never seen anything like it in the PL before.

The pressure is there mostly because bar Rangers Celtic are far and away the best team in the division. Is the pressure even that high if it's very difficult to eff it up though? I could say although Martin hasn't had that pressure, he's got results in one of the most competitive leagues in world football, where it's very easy to experience a slide in results and end up relegated.

I'm not saying I want Martin as manager clearly, but the point i'm making is I don't think there are massive dissimilarities if we're going to box tick, and nobody on here would want Martin.

This Ange guy must be the least top flight experienced coach we’ve ever considered. Big balls if we appoint him based off Australian and Scottish league football.

And that last sentence brings fear to every Tottenham fan across the globe……

The Goat hears (from a reliable source) that although Matilda is still the likeliest to waltz through the door, it isn't decided yet. Also, a fairly new source (so salt please) tells The Goat that someone else has been spoken to over the past couple of days.

Also, The Goat will let you know when this becomes the player wishlist or Harry Kane thread.

No salt required on that one. Dickweeds.

Still not the same pressure though. You simply have to win the league with Celtic or you’re deemed a failure. Rangers are actually a force nowadays as well so it’s not a one team league.

I don't really understand the focus on the quality of the league - he's not playing in it, he's getting the best out of the players available to him.

Surely the main attributes are:
  1. People management - including coaching and improving players
  2. Team management - keeping everyone as happy as possible
  3. Tactics
  4. Ability to put together a strong and robust squad - not having 35 WBs and no AMs for example
  5. Cope with pressure and continue to be positive
  6. Manage the press
  7. Manage upwards - Levy and the board
All of which are fairly universal - he either can or cannot, the standard at which he has done so before is less relevant.

I could understand people wondering if he can cope with the pressure of the PL and with the "personalities" of top level players but he's coped with being under the microscope at Celtic and seems more than capable of dealing with divas. It's not like he's moving straight from Bumbunga Koalas to Real Madrid is it?

I think the only evidence so far is that every time he has been asked to step up, he has done so successfully. He sticks to his principles of playing good attacking, front foot football and the fans seem to like him. There is no proof that he isn't able to step up so I guess we will never know unless he is given a chance. Whether we are the right club to give him that opportunity, I don't know. I do know that we have regretted passing up on managers and players in the past due to hesitancy and not being prepared to take a calcated risk. On the flipside we have gone for serial winners in Mourinho and Conte and both ended badly so there are clearly no guarantees when it comes to picking the right manager.

Ange’s last game for Yokahom was a loss to 4th tier Honda FC in the Emperors Cup so if they loose today I’m taking it as sign he is 100% coming.

Joking aside this does sound quite familiar. Im sure the body language experts will be out in full force at the final whistle.

I didn't want to get attached again. 😞

Ange is either the next Poch or the next Martinez imo. So i'm not sure there's going to be an in-between with this appointment. It's maximum risk but with the potential for high rewards.

If it does fail miserably, then the good news is it might just tip Lewis into ousting Levy. But the bad news is I think there'd be a good chance Levy appoints Mason as interim during a potential relegation battle.
So half a chance we'll win the cup then.

He’s got to be up there but at least he was managing in holland and not Australia which, let’s face it, isn’t a footballing country with a shit league.

You’re right though, Jol’s CV wasn’t anything to write home about.
