Guus Hiddick managed Australia from 2005-2006 through the qualifiers and took them to the World Cup in 2006.
Tim Cahill scored two goals for Australia against Japan to give Australia their first ever win at a World Cup Finals.
Not that this has anything to do with our manager search and Ange, although I daresay that having been managed by someone as successful as Guus Hiddink, perhaps Tim Cahill, along with Harry Redknapp, can offer an informed opinion about Ange Postecoglou and his suitability to manage in the Premiership.
Yeah I was way off with that one! Interesting stuff don't know how I never knew before

Is it talking themselves into a win or is it coming to the realization that this is happening and then trying to understand what he could bring to the club and getting behind that?

We all want someone to come in and perform miracles and turn us into an immediate challenger. A bigger name with better track record would certainly raise the spirits of the club and the fan base but there is no guarantee that any of them could transfer that record to our squad. We’ve seen that it doesn’t translate because the coaches expectations don’t match what we can do.

I’d see this move as a reset. I’m not imagining Ange (or anyone else) to come in and work miracles. The videos of him talking or of the mic’d training session have been hyped and ridiculed in equal measures here but I see the positives in them. This club needs an arm around the shoulder, a clear thinker that can get things moving in the right direction and I do believe Ange can bring that.

The training stuff, mocked as coaching for U11’s, looks like working on basics and building a philosophy. It’s not a complicated message but having watched our team barely move off the ball for 3 years and move the ball slower than any other team in the league it feels like these basics need to be worked on even at prem level. I don’t think the level of football matters in this case at all. People surely don’t expect Premier League players to be taking on extremely complicated information. It still comes down to similar philosophies at every level but with differing levels of execution. We definitely need to establish those philosophies because we are lost right now.

That’s not me convincing myself this is a win, that’s just trying to find glimmers of hope after a terrible year and a comical leadership group still running things. Would rather look at the positives and get behind the team.
Yep, good post.

The original “list” in no particular order from what I can tell has always been rumoured to be Nagelsmann, Kompany, Slot, Postecoglu, De Zerbi and Amorim. With Luis Enrique leftovers from Paratici reign and Poch being wanted by a lot of fans. It’s been a mess but this idea we’re going for option Z is utter bollocks. Fuck knows if Ange will work out, I think there’s big question marks, but he’s clearly been identified as someone, and rightfully so, who ticks a lot of the boxes we were aiming for with this appointment.

Yes, I think many of us know their are certain weaknesses and challenges if he were to come in and some have been more vocal than others on their opinions, which everyone is entitled to.

What I've liked is that he has been on the list since the beginning as you said and ticks boxes that were looking for in our next manager.

I wonder how far Postecoglou was down our list

Second, according to Prof on COYS. This was in response to a positive post about Ange:

I get the impression that many (though not all) COYSers would have been somewhere between okay and enthusiastic with either of the top two names on the list that came out of the original assessment process. #3 not so much, so let's hope they can seal a deal with #2.

I've said I think he has his pluses and I'll back him. I take it you chose not to read that part of my post.
“ I find it quite amusing how so many have talked themselves into this being a win”

what part of post did you suggest their was pluses?

Slot and Nagelsmann the original top 2?

Does this imply we’re still talking to Nag?

Yep, good post.
Yes and on top of the fact that the chosen person could wel offer the best of what they have currently as well as learning, improving and developing on the job.
All of this is very reasonable and if appointed I will support him and there is much I like about the man. BUT there are concerns and as @Trix says the opinion on him or any other candidate and their potential success is rarely ever a simple binary divide if ever.

Well that's interesting, because I thought Nagelsmann and Slot were likely 1 and 2.

BBC Radio 5 Scotland reporter saying just now that we have permission to speak to Ange next week, and that the consensus and feeling in and around Celtic is that he'll will leave for Spurs.
Well he's not my first choice but I'm at the acceptance stage now and just hope we see some entertaining football.

Generally in business with 12 month rolling contracts there is an agreed date that both parties decide if they are going to renew, usually weeks/months before contract ends, to give both sides some certainty.
It's possible both Celtic & Ange P signed a commitment to renew the contract on improved terms, with terms to be finalised end of season.
Spurs would then need agreement & would need to pay some compensation to Celtic.
Clutching here mate.

If Celtic weren't in a cup final then it 'might' have been sorted a couple of weeks ago.. so they'll have agreed to talk about it at the end of the season.

I'm.verging on the acceptance stage and will of course get behind him if its him, but have deep misgivings about the appointment. 0% chance this is the best appointment for us and I can't believe people are seriously claiming he would he our "first" choice.

People are entitled to think like me or hold completely different views. Of course I want him to succeed. But there is at least a 50% chance he is Nuno 2.0 and gone by November.

Just hoping we are still talking to Enrique and that the pendulum swings that way and we appoint him instead. *or Nagelsmann but that looks v unlikely

Nagelsmann only became an option later on. The original list would have been drawn up before he was sacked by Bayern
Yep I think people forget Nagelsmann was thrown in to the mix late on out of nowhere and took Tuchel's place on the list.

I think its possible to be simultaneously optimistic about Ange coming whilst acknowledging that the Club is in a right mess behind the scenes. They arent mutually exclusive.

Spurs have almost knocked all the positivity out of me but I've got a really good feeling about Ange. Just feels like the right character at the right time.

Cue him turning us down now.....
