20:13 PENALTY APPEAL - Norwich 0-0 Tottenham
Classy Spurs centre-back Jan Vertonghen has struggled with the more mundane threat posed by Norwich striker Grant Holt, and after previously getting caught under a high ball, the striker went down under a challenge from the Belgian. Holt demands a penalty but is turned down by referee Neil Swarbrick. Spurs have been slow to get going so far.
20:17 GOAL - Norwich 1-0 Tottenham - Wes Hoolahan
Fine goal for Norwich! Robert Snodgrass again causes havoc, putting in a very deep cross which has Hugo Lloris all over the shop. Grant Holt heads it down, and when Anthony Pilkington fires in a low cross, Wes Hoolahan is free to sweep home a deserved opener.
20:29 CLOSE! - Norwich 1-0 Tottenham
Spurs have been appalling so far at Carrow Road but just before the half-time whistle Jermain Defoe forces a good save from Mark Bunn. The striker won the ball from Sebastien Bassong, and was played in by Aaron Lennon, but could only shoot straight at the goalkeeper.
21:16 SUBSTITUTION - Norwich 1-0 Tottenham
Tottenham are finally starting to build some pressure but have so far been unable to find a gap in the Norwich rearguard. Manager Andre Villas-Boas looks to his bench for the answer and throws on playmaker Lewis Holtby for his debut in place of the ineffectual Clint Dempsey.
21:22 GOAL- Norwich 1-1 Tottenham - Gareth Bale (80 mins)
Sensational, stunning, sublime, superb.
What a goal this is! Like Ryan Giggs in the FA Cup semi-final of 1999, Gareth Bale picks up the ball well inside his own half, runs at the Norwich defence before cutting inside on to his left foot and hammering a curling shot across the goalkeeper and into the net. World class.

Norwich and Tottenham look to recover from cup disappointment

Norwich and Tottenham will be looking to recover from their respective shock FA Cup exits when they meet at Carrow Road.
Luton's surprise 1-0 victory at Carrow Road on Saturday was the first time a non-league side had beaten top-flight opposition for 24 years and, coupled with their recent league form, boss Chris Hughton will be concerned.
Having turned his sides fortunes around after a slow start to the season, Hughton's side are currently without a win in their last six Premier League games, losing five in the process.
The visit of a top-four chasing Spurs side is not ideal timing. The Canaries have lost four of the last five meetings between the two sides in East Anglia, netting only one goal in the process.
Despite their disappointing defeat at Elland Road on Sunday, Spurs are in good league form ahead of their visit to Carrow Road.
With only one defeat in their last 11 Premier League outings, Andre Villas-Boas' side look as strong a contender as any for a UEFA Champions League qualification spot.
However, the loss against Sunday's Championship opponents, despite fielding a strong side, exposed their fragility, and Villas-Boas will be hoping to quickly put that aside, and build on their performance against league leaders Manchester United in their last Premier League encounter.

Norwich
Defender Sebastien Bassong has recovered from a calf injury and could make a return against his former club.
Steven Whittaker is fit again following a hip injury and was an unused substitute in Saturday's humiliating FA Cup reverse to non-League Luton, while Harry Kane, who started the 1-0 loss up front, is ineligible against his parent club.
Goalkeeper Lee Camp will be named in the squad, while Steve Morison could be available for the weekend match with QPR, but England goalkeeper John Ruddy remains out with a thigh problem.

Tottenham
Tottenham will have striker Jermain Defoe back from injury in time to travel to face Norwich after recovering from the pelvic injury that kept him out against Leeds on Sunday.
New signing Lewis Holtby is also in contention to make his debut with defender William Gallas fit after a calf problem.
Emmanuel Adebayor is still at the Africa Cup of Nations, Younes Kaboul and Sandro are both missing with knee injuries, and Tom Huddlestone will not be risked.

Which of these sides will be suffering the biggest FA Cup hangover?
Norwich City suffered the ignominy of becoming the first Premier League club to be beaten in the famous old competition by non-league opposition, then just 24 hours later Tottenham Hotspur were humbled by Leeds United of the Championship.
Spurs' upset, while not on the same scale, was a huge blow nonetheless, leaving their silverware bid dependent on the gruelling and unglamorous Europa League campaign.
Of course, for many critics the measure of Tottenham's achievement lies in qualifying for next season's Champions League. Currently fourth, it's theirs to lose, so maybe the fewer distractions they have to contend with the better as they seek to keep Everton and Arsenal at arm's length.
Clint Dempsey's injury-time equaliser last time out at home to Manchester United stretched their unbeaten run to seven games, but after being held by QPR last time on the road, this is a match they really need to win Their Premier League record at Carrow Road is excellent, taking 13 points from five visits. The likely return of top scorer Jermain Defoe after being rested for Sunday's Cup tie will only improve their chances against a Norwich side that's floundering badly.
My last trip to Norfolk was only six-and-a-half weeks ago and things looked so rosy. Victory over Wigan made it an impressive 10 Premier League games without defeat and they were seventh in the table.
They've since mustered a pathetic one point from six games, leaking goals at one end and firing blanks at the other. Carry on like this and the Canaries could very easily become embroiled in a relegation scrap.
Saturday's trip to QPR looms large but first the chance to repair some much-damaged pride in front of their shell-shocked supporters. They've bounced back before this season and they've already beaten Tottenham - a repeat of their League Cup triumph of just three months ago couldn't be more timely.

Head-to-head

  • Tottenham lost at Carrow Road for the first time since April 1991 earlier this season in the League Cup.
  • Chris Sutton was the last player to score a Premier League goal for Norwich at home against Tottenham in April 1994 in a 2-1 defeat.
  • This is their 61st meeting in all competitions. Tottenham have won 26, Norwich 19 and there have been 15 draws.
  • Along with Swansea, Norwich and Tottenham are the only teams not to be awarded a penalty in the Premier League this season.
Norwich
  • The Canaries have not won any of their last six league matches and were humbled in the FA Cup by Luton on Saturday.
  • They have conceded 11 goals in their last four league matches and have let in more Premier League goals than bottom side QPR.
  • Defender Russell Martin has scored Norwich's last three goals in the league.
  • They have picked up the equal-fewest yellow cards (22) with Arsenal and Southampton in the top flight this season.
Tottenham
  • Spurs have 41 points from 23 league matches this season, which is eight less than they had last season. But this is still their second best record at this stage of a Premier League season (equal with 2009-10).
  • They have lost four league matches this season from winning positions - the equal most along with West Ham, Newcastle and Reading.
  • Andre Villas-Boas's side have committed the least number of fouls (221) in the Premier League this season.

That penalty stat is mental..

probably for the best though..

Who would take them these days? Can't see Dempsey having it after missing the one against Norwich in the Cup. Bale has scored pens for Wales.

I'm still haunted by Defoe's horrible collection of missed penalties a season or so ago.

Some back in time ITK from Led Zeppelin to pass a bit of time before kick off. They seem to be hinting that Levy is gonna break the bank for a player or two! Jimmy Page did dabble in the dark arts so it's entirely possible that he could have predicted the future.

Vertonghen.

I don't know if he's actually any good at penalties, but he's the coolest motherfucker I've ever seen on a football pitch.
