Unless things have changed recently, I'm fairly sure this guy is not our primary target.

Thanks for the info Trix :(:(:(.

Guess we're resigning an ex-striker playing and not scoring for Monterrey. All the other options seem to have gone......

This is one of those situations where I feel, instead of grasping for straws or pulling names out of thin air, we could all just say 'I trust Levy to get it done and JJ/Trix are both confident"

Except, we've heard this exact thing the past 3 windows. I categorically do not trust our recruitment team Levy in the slightest to do this. Sigh..

So if it's not Daka or Edouard , then there aren't many options left. Either the PSV or Milan options seem most likely. Both Vinicius and Paulinho (different one), scored a decent amount of goals, in Portugal, last season.
I honestly just think it's Leao and not anything fancy or super mysterious. He's got a complicated ownership issues. Lots of potential not yet realized playing lots of bench minutes (and who knows may never be realized) and we know Jose loves Lille players and Sacramento may know him from his time there.

That'd make Serge's move there easier.

But Dragon was the only one saying something ownership issues and he confirmed it was about Edouard.

The Portuguese media, but not the UK as far as I know, have linked us to Jovane Cabral (I have many thoughts on this but will save them for if there is ever a thread), but he can't really play the 9 role. He tends to play much wider.
We were linked with him one or two weeks ago but it was Football Insider who is shit source .

I'd never heard of him until yesterday, but he does seem to be a good fit, in terms of the ITK we've had and the Lille/Sacramento links. The PSV fits with the "orange" ITK from earlier in the window, but that was probably DVDB.

True but Dragon has been all over the shop this window and Trix is much more reliable.

I'm inclined to think it's Leao for the same reasons as @Univarn but would prefer Edouard.

Also, on top of all the other reasons, he's Portuguese and Jose loves a Portuguese player.

Also Leao is hardly a striker. Probably the most 'winger' out of all the options mentioned.
I agree, but he did play as a lone striker for lille 2 seasons ago. I think I'd prefer more of a hybrid player anyway, who is able to cover multiple positions. He is a natural striker by trade though, so I don't find it to be much of an issue.

On Transfermarkt it says he's played 49 games as a striker and only 14 as a winger so striker seems, by far, to be his preferred position according to that at least.

Duncan Castles reporting Arsenal also in for him and upped their offer - seems like our MO is terms to be close for other teams before we come in and start to negotiate from there.

Thats the offer we could easily outbid

The difference this time around is that Jose is our manager and Levy acknowledges that he is our best chance of winning trophies, which would invariably boost the club's profile and lead to more funds. Fortunately, Jose understands the clubs financial situation and is willing to work around those limitations to secure some badly needed cover for the problem areas in the team.

I guess so, I’ve really only seen him for Milan on the wing. And if you watch highlights most of them are him picking up the ball either wide or infield then turning to run, very little in the box hold up play which is hugely different to Edouard/Daka.

He’s not leaving Scotland for that. I suspect if he goes there it means PEA ain’t signing that contract.
Weren't all the reports that PEA had essentially already signed? I get the impression Lacazette is leaving which leaves a spot for a new striker with PEA playing off the left.

Funny how they're doing the exact same thing they did with Ozil - offering an old player obscene wages (reportedly £300k) to persuade them to stay. He doesn't strike me as the type to down tools like Ozil did, but that's a fuckload of money to pay for a player that age and if he does drop off or loses interest they've made the exact same mistake twice.

If Arsenal are indeed in for Edouard (I'm not convinced) that just proves that this is the level of player we should be in for in the striker position. Even if Lacazette goes they have Nketieh and Martinelli in their ranks.

£350k a week for 3 years. They've been saying he was going to sign all year, yet today Arteta says he's "convinced" he will sign. Doesn't mean anything till he does and if they are looking at this guy then maybe it suggests him leaving is a possibility.
