Someone who's been linked with us in the past. Popped up a few times, in the media, recently, but doesn't seem like much of a connection, as the stories are quite short and he almost an afterthought, so I didn't post it originally. But it has another short write-up, and it did get me to thinking about the ITK that Ajax wasn't the only club on Levy's itinerary in the Netherlands. Could this be the answer to that mystery?

Here are the links, for what they are worth:

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/fo...t-secure-coveted-signature-PSVs-Toivonen.html

"Tottenham must move fast to secure coveted signature of PSV's Toivonen.
Tottenham have been told to make their move for Ola Toivonen or risk missing out on the PSV Eindhoven hotshot.
He is on a list of strikers but signing Emmanuel Adebayor from Manchester City is a priority."

And that's it!

Secondly:

"
Tottenham pondering four different striker options
Tottenham Hotspur are trying to seal a permanent move for Emmanuel Adebayor and are in the market for the 20 million pound rated Loic Remy, but have reportedly also reignited their interest in Brazilian frontman Leandro Damiao, who Spurs tried to sign last summer.
Harry Redknapp fell short in his attempts to sign the 22-year old Internacional striker last season, but has reaffirmed his interest in Damiao, and could test the Brazilian club’s resolve with a £14 million pound bid.
Internacional however aren’t ready to let the striker leave the club for cheap, and have reportedly slapped a £20 million price tag on the Brazilian starlet.
Tottenham are not the only team in the market for Damiao, with Juventus, AC Milan, Roma and Paris Saint-Germain also keen on securing the signature of the player rated one of Brazil’s top prospects.
Meanwhile, another Spurs target Ola Toivonen has confirmed that he wants to leave PSV Eindhoven, which would put the likes of Valencia and Fiorentina on high alert. Toivonen is reportedly available for £7 million.
While Spurs might have lined up 4 striking options, it remains to be seen where they fund the purchases from, and whether they will need to sell not just the dead weight around the club but also a star player to be able to enter the market for such expensive prospects."

Like I said, not a lot, but is someone playing in a club in the Netherlands, other than Ajax, which fits in with ITK.

Don't shoot the messanger!

He's a big guy but isn't really a Target man, he'd probably be more suited to vdv role. Not quite sure how he'd fit for us.

Would be a good signing for Sunderland or Aston Villa,
we should look elsewhere if we have some ambition

Remember that we probably need at least two strikers though, depending on Defoe.
I wouldn't be surprised if we were looking with an intent to keep an option open should our main deals fall through.

Aim higher? Yes but we don't want to be left with no one come the end of transfer window and maybe he is seen as a quick purchase second or even third option, done and dusted, in squad, aim for more?!

Just a thought.

This is pretty much how I see it. I don't know that much about him, but when we were linked previously, I was never wholly convinced, even though there were some folk on here who thought he was amazing.

But as a fall-back for our back-up striker, it might make sense, and it does fit with Levy not just being in Amsterdam. The fact that the articles suggest that there has been some contact but PSV are asking that we firm up any offer, also suggests that we may have been sniffing around his as a fall-back option to keep ticking over in case other options fall through.

Agree and that PSV are asking we either sort it out or sod off would also suggest this could be the case... They don't want months of uncertainty just like us with modric, so they are asking us to clarify our position or move along.

At least if these articles are to be believed a pond our speculations correct!

Agree - think de Jong could become massive, and, from what I've seen, well suited to our league. I would say a less risky, and less costly, alternative to Damiao.
