Just read that Man City have issued a media lockdown on questions about Tevez:

http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/2011/sep/30/carlos-tevez-roberto-mancini-manchester-city

Good idea IMO and it made me wonder why we didn't do the same about Modric back in the summer?

Getting 'arry to stick to it would have been an other matter altogether though I imagine...

Because they fap fap fap over Citeh's money but couldn't give a shi'ite whether we ask them nicely or not, and enjoy unsettling us

This only applies to a press conference, gregga, and doesn't stop any press meddling outside of it -- for example, everything in that very article AFTER mentioning Citeh's statement!

The Tevez incident is much more serious objectively and while journalists will understand why Man City are doing this, they won't be pleased at all.

PR is all about give and take - the club gives something to the journos (e.g. an exclusive) so they can take something else (e.g. a helpful story about one of their transfer targets, the club's management, financial performance, the Olympic Stadium etc).

Man City won't win themselves much goodwill from the press with a lockdown and it's clear that the "Man City fails..." story is much bigger than "Man City succeeds..."

Redknapp gives journos what they want and should be v useful in PR terms, but I'd be interested to know what he/we get in return. Maybe he could do more to call in favours?

Tevez has been suspended and there's an ongoing internal inquiry...so it is right, that the manager says nothing until the outcome.
