So, we know it is all about the squad and like for like rotation. But if we had a CL final next week, who would you pick? This would be mine. It will be interesting to do this again in November and see what’s changed in our perception!

Lloris
Romero — Dier — Davies
Doherty — Højbjerg — Bentancur — Perisic
Kulusevski — Kane — Son

Davies is injured it seems so apprently you cant have him for the CL final next week - I guess Lenglet it is :) (I got told off for for it haha)

But your team is pretty much what I would choose - I think Emerson over Doherty just purely because Emerson is better defensively.

I think it's just too soon to have this kind of thoughts about our new signings..

Who's to say if Perisic will adapt right away ? If Bissouma will hit the ground running and take Hojbjerg spot ? And so on..

Bissouma over PEH and possibly Lenglet over Davies otherwise agree with that.

What is people’s obsession with this? We don’t have one, it will vary based on the opposition
I think it’s a valid Q from the OP given we have a lot of new signings etc, sure from game to game our team will change because of rotation etc but there’s nothing wrong with having a when all are fit, strongest XI in mind, also shows to me that RWB and CB could still be improved tbh, the rest of the team looks v tasty ?

Think if we had a cup final tomorrow i'd opt for Davies for now as Lenglet still a bit of an unknown quantity in terms of his defending.

Don't see anything wrong with the thread idea - if you don't like it just ignore it.

While I think there will be a lot more rotation this season, I expect we'll still have a 'favoured 11' that Conte will use when we don't have mid-week games. This is my prediction for the team Conte will regularly opt for when things settle down.

Lloris
Romero — Dier — Davies
Lucas — Bissouma — Hojbjerg — Perisic
Kulusevski — Kane — Son

There will no doubt be plenty of rotation at CM and wing back, though, with Richarlison and Lenglet also getting a good number of starts.

Lenglet is a better passer than Davies and our back 3 lacks ball progression. Hojbjerg will be first choice for Conte but Bentancur and Bissouma are more talented, very similar players though. Doherty is the best RWB we have and I don't quite understand what Conte doesn't like about him, he was excellent before his injury and outright stole Royal's place in the team. Richarlison has more speed than Kulu but I just can't look beyond Kulusevski's ability to constantly be involved on the ball.

Dier the weak link in this team, we should be fine with him there in this system but I really still see an under athletic below average passer.

Agree with a lot of this but why do you say you don’t understand what Conte doesn’t like about Doherty? He played his way into the team and was a nailed first name on the team sheet until his injury, so far in pre season he’s getting some minutes here and there to ease him back from a bad injury and operation.

I agree with the XI you’ve put as the strongest.

If we literally had to play tomorrow then Lenglet would get the shout because Davies is injured and Sess would start because Perisic can’t quite do 90 mins yet but if all players are fit and up to speed then the XI you ‘ve put us our strongest, I think there is an argument that if it was a CL final etc then Emerson might get the nod as he’s better defensively than Doherty but personally I’d always prefer to play the better offensive player to push the opposition back and with 5 atb the 3 CB’s + 1-2 CM’s should provide enough cover in most cases.

Will be interesting to see how the CM pairings progress. PEH & Bentancur worked up a nice understanding last season so it’s their places to lose as it stands but I think Bissouma is a better player than PEH for all of PEH’s blood guts and thunder I think Bissouma has more quality and physicality and he and Bentancur on paper are the strongest 2. If Skipp can keep improving and stay fit we have 4 great all slightly different options all of a pretty similar quality.

You are right, maybe Conte has fallen in love with Doherty and lack of pre-season time is fitness related but rumours are Doherty is still available for a buyer. Perisic and Sessegnon at LWB has the perfect balance of experience and youth pushing for that position. I would have thought Doc and Spence would do a similar thing for RWB but Conte is moving Moura back there and Royal is playing pre season, fully integrated in this squad, not even thinking of a move.

Hojbjerg fitness levels are incredible, Conte will lean on him heavily this season. It's clear he's not as talented as Bissouma and Bentancur who have energy and more natural ball playing ability and I would play them together but AC will not move away from Hojbjerg. PEH is slightly underrated by Spurs fans, Biissouma and Bentancur are so much smoother and have more talent but PEH is a teacher's pet. The only thing that stops him from being pushed forward as the Club Leader is that we have such a strong core of nice guys that are the Leadership group, LLoris, Davies, Kane, Son and Dier are so embedded in the club after being here for 10 years that they run the show.

If Hojbjerg was at a club where players were changed more frequently he would see a gap and become the leader and everybody would know he's the man but really this is minimized at Spurs because we are club that holds onto good men, almost to the point of harming itself. Mourinho was right when he said we are a team full of nice boys, it's been our success but also our downfall.

I Think it’s because it’s going to be a long season and conte wants 5 wingbacks.
