Holy shit that's next level.

When we sign James Maddison we should have him sit out on the curb of the Tottenham High Road and pump out some Chas & Dave. I'm sure it would draw a similar crowd.

IMO Maddison is more "Flock of Seagulls"

My brain is actually refusing to believe that that video is real, and isn’t some kind of spliced together comedic spoof job. This type of shit is usually reserved for proper generational players. Have Roma really been starved that badly of any exciting talent since Totti retired ? I’ve lost track

I love the look on Dybala's face in that video. Somewhere between "this is amazing" and "I feel so much pressure now I just crapped myself".

I think it's a combination of general mad Italian fan culture and Roma fans being a massive fan-base that's been starved of glory for decades.

I doubt they've brought in a big established star like Dybala for a good while now. Just had a look at their records signings and you have to go back to the the turn of the millennium to see iconic names like Batistuta and, to a lesser degree, Cassano.

Dybala is no Batistuta but he's probably the closest thing in 20 years.

What player would it take for us to turn up to Tottenham, even remotely like that?
Even if we signed peak Messi I'm not sure you'd see that reaction at Spurs tbh.

British fans are the best in the world at turning up to watch shitty 5th tier teams every week in horrendous weather but we don't have the raw emotion or romance of some other football cultures.

Sorry, according to various posters on SC he's complete shit like everyone else we might or do eventually sign. Intriguing... ??

Not one player or human can ever make me do that. I find it OTT. These players are humans and dont even know you exist... its like youre making it out that he is better than us on an individual level etc and I cant really handle that. Also lets be honest, these players come and go apart from the very far and few exceptions.

Perhaps thats why im not as into individual sports as I am with team sports. I support the club/team not the individual player. Its difficult to explain.

You're spot-on. Dybala is the biggest name Roma have signed since Batistuta, the only one who maybe comes close is Luca Toni on loan in 2009.

There aren’t any but it’s because we are Tottenham. This is like West Ham signing Wayne Rooney. Even today’s Arsenal are too high in stature to react that way to any player coming in. Roma are never confused with the top tier of Italian football even though they have a very strong fan base and so when they get a player of such a high stature….you get this. It requires a rabid fan base at a club that is sufficiently low in the food chain where the differential between club and signing is very great. None of the top six is low low enough for that differential to be high enough. I suppose if Arsenal had signed Haaland maybe….?
