I already feel sorry for the guy. The abuse he is going to get when he finally does get a start and doesn't match people expectation is going to be nasty.

I really like this lad. There is definitely a player in there if we can build him up a little with a program of steak and bananas etc!.
Watched him carefully last night when he came on. His first thought is always to get it forward, and he has good game awareness and energy.
When we were chasing the equaliser he was even retrieving the ball and getting it back into play as soon as he could - no standing around with his finger up his bum!.
I maybe a deluded optimist but I really hope to see more of him and hope he has a future with us.

Can't fault the lad, he is trying. Ok he isn't perfect and he does go down easy but last night, he was trying to get the ball forward, there was one point he had his back to goal, turned the defender and ran towards the box. Sometimes we need a run like that, rather than pass it back to the CB, who passes it to the wing back, who passes it down the wing and then it returns back to the CB. Sometimes, we need some direct running, something Son seems unable to do this season.

He has his weaknesses, but he makes things happen. You can even see why conte us reluctant to play him in the Premier league, but ultimately he is the kind of player that WILL create something if he is on for long enough.

He actually strikes at the heart of the conte issue for me, Gil is unpredictable. He'll drive at players, find quick passes, move defenders around and force his team mates to make runs, but he will also lose the ball, get physically overpowered, cause us to lose our shape.

Its Conte in microcosm, he wants control of all things at all times, but it makes us easy to nullify, makes our best players ineffective.

Gil is the only player of that type we have and for me he shouldn't be.

Either Conte releases the reins a little, or he will inevitably go the way of Jose, Nuno and AVB before him.

Its not either or, there is a middle way!

Have to say I'll be disappointed if Lucas starts against Bournemouth instead of this guy. Yes he is still incredibly raw but his profile is similar to Kulu's (just worse ball striking and physical power, arguably better 1v1 dribbling though) as a left footed RW.

His shooting outside the box is pretty good actually. Seen him score some rockets for the Spain U21s.

And also he just kept whipping the damn crosses in without second thoughts. Sporting defenders really had a terrible time dealing with those.

Yes, he hit a couple decent crosses in. His dribbling reminds of Isco but not as refined. Plenty of potential with Gil but I can't see Conte giving him the minutes he needs in the next couple games. Another loan in January is looking very likely.

Gil, like every other talented young player at the club, needs to go elsewhere to blossom. It's not going to happen at a club that plays the likes or Perishing and Doherty as 'attacking' wing backs, with a manager that thinks no one can play football unless he personally tells them how to

I want to like this guy but theres a few things that are a concern. For a player of his stature I dont think he has the pace to make up for it. Thats not to say hes slow btw just never seems to get away from anyone before they can get a foot in.
His touch can also be heavy, and when you watch him he never really seems to be in control of what hes doing, probably explained by a lack of composure.
Played well the other night though and I really like players like him so I hope its just a case of confidence and playing time

He's the closest player to Kulu that we have at the moment in style and role (not ability).

He should of had more minutes off the bench by now and hope he does in the future.

Starting him away at Bournemouth? Nah that would be ridiculous.

Conte's system generally wins. The problem we have is a lack of all round quality. The question people should ask themselves if we opened up more played with more freedom with the players we have would we be better off?

Which is probably why, according to ITK, we tried so hard for Zaniolo.
Gil is a much more technical dribbler than Zaniolo. Zaniolo can ride challenges much better because of his size/strength but doesn’t have same guile as Gil. Only player that does is Kulu (and even Deki lacks the variety of Gil to beat his man) so if Kulu is injured it’s pretty important Gil gets minutes imo. Otherwise, we lack quality between the lines.
