Fairly certain at this point that it’s more the club pushing this move than Eriksen. We need player sales to conduct our business. Couldn’t move players last summer, can’t afford for that to happen two summers in a row, especially when two of them can leave on a free next year.
I imagine CE and his representatives were certain RM would be in for him. ZZ doesn't fancy him, prefers Pogba and it leaves us with a player who doesn't really want to be here and a potential scare of leaving on a free next season. I feel that the hierarchy at Spurs are trying to force him out to the highest bigger (even if a domestic rival) to show that nobody can disrespect the badge. If United pay the £60m and it's reinvested on top of GLC & RS - I'll be fine with it.
You cannot blame the club on this occasion. They have offered him a much improved contract which he agreed to sign if Real Madrid didnt work out and now allegedly refuses to sign. They were criticized for allowing Sol Campbell to run his contract down as he promised to sign an improved one, and we all know how that one went. Once bitten twice shy and all that.

The guy is clearly ready for a change so I hope we cut our losses and let him go AS LONG as we get in a replacement. I don’t believe Poch saw GLC as his replacement. All the ITK pointed to him being on the list regardless. So that leaves Bruno or Dybala or A N Other yet to be named.

CE motivated and on top form is almost irreplaceable but I don’t think that’s where his head is at. Get in some fresh blood and let him go realise the grass isn’t always greener.

Dont see why people feel sorry for him, has a contract on the table. RM clearly haven't come in for him and hes gone back on his word to sign said contract. For me hes disrespecting the club. Joining man utd will prove the crap he sprouted in the press were just that

Agreed, it was his worst season at that part of the game, but it's generally something he's brought that's been vital too us. He held an absolute masterclass away at Barcelona though.
This whole transfer saga is blinkering peoples opinions on CE...please remember that because of lack of signings and long term injuries the guy had to carry our midfield every game with almost a different partner/partners every week!

I don’t get it on any level why Eriksen wants to leave us for United.

They have a shit coach in charge, a clueless executive, have loads of overpaid underperforming players and loads of overated English talent.

Eriksen will go from assisting Kane to assisting Rashford. Good luck with that.

Yes they will pay him well but surely not that much considerably more than we would.

He’s also basically moving to a rival in the league to play europa league football.

I’ll be honest and say I’m happy to get rid now. People will know that I was criticising him throughout last season for his poor performances so I can’t be a hypocrite now. Yes I’d rather he signed a new contract because he’s a quality player when on song and I don’t like to see us weaken the squad but last season he was abysmal and his pathetic showing in the CL final showed to me that he simply isn’t an elite level player.

There is a good reason no top clubs are busting down the door to sign him.

If we were to sign GLC and BF and lose Eriksen I’d be happy. Hopefully we can be a bit more dynamic in attack rather than the slow tepid stuff we had most of last season.

The only downside is why it had to be United, if we can shift him abroad it’s a win win IMO.

No sorry. That just isn’t true and an insult to players like Son and Sissoko. They were carrying Eriksen last season. Yes he scored a few important late goals, but his influence was practically non existent. He continually lost possession and gave the ball away and simply didn’t turn up far more than he had good games.

To look at his performances last season and say he carried the midfield is a joke.

He's an awesome player, I have no doubt of that.

Selling him to Man Utd would be top 4 suicide. If this happens Levy will feel heat but I feel for him, in truth perhaps he should have sold Eriksen a season or two ago. Had he done this he would have been accused of not backing Pochettino and possibly cost us top 4 place. He's in a no win situation. Eriksen seems to made us feel he will renew.

I still feel the best option is to keep him for next season and then let him leave for free. CL qualification is worth 50m on its own, the damage to our stature of selling to Man Utd is too brutal, undoes a lot of work.

I just feel mildy embarrassed on behalf of the club for having this happen. It's so 2008. Not a good look about the contract thing let a lone selling him to United. As @bat-chain said, the reputational damage is not insignificant.

The Fernandes deal is linked to Christian Eriksen's future, but not completely dependent on it.

With the Dane's contract set to run out next year, and no sign of a new deal being agreed, Spurs would prefer to move him on this summer and build.

Real Madrid's interest has cooled, however, and Eriksen is left with few options other than Manchester United.

His camp have already rebuffed them in the past, but are more open to it now, and are said to be considering the offer.

On the pitch, at least, Fernandes could serve as a direct replacement for Eriksen.

Some points from me on this:-

- If Utd want him it has to be a decent fee, as it's clear he wouldn't have joined them under normal market conditions. No bargains should be given here.

- No sign of a new deal being agreed - likely flat out rejected at this point.

- Indication again that we are trying to force the issue so we can rebuild.

Pffft! Just like Sanchez was going to win the League for them.

One word. Escape. He wants to escape. Not escape Tottenham but escape the situation he is in and the situation was that he thought as they would come running for him. Meanwhile where he could have showed his inner strength he hasnt. He has had every opportunity.

What a load of nonsense. News flash, Eriksen was carried a lot of the times by people like Sissoko (ironically). He has been good for us over the years, but last season was not one of them

No - that report contains the first comment as I said. It does not contain anything about "only god tier clubs and signing with Spurs otherwise". Think you've made that up in your head from ITK snippets which you forgot to take with salt.
Sorry mate, you´re wrong. It was in the Danish newspaper B.T. (Denmark´s biggest) on the 5th of June - here´s the original link:

https://www.bt.dk/fodbold/storklubber-spoeger-nu-aabner-eriksen-op-for-mega-klubskifte

I don´t know if you or so many others in here are fluint in Danish, so here is a on-the-fly translation of the most important parts in that article. Please forgive my poor English, but I´ll try to get the most accurate meaning of what he´s being quoted to have said (compared to just a google translate):

The Danish star revealed a change of clubs can be happening:
"I feel I´m at a point in my career where I might try something new. But I stress I have the deepest respect for everything that has happened at Tottenham. There would be nothing negative about staying at the club."

When asked about the future:
"I hope it will be sorted during the summer. That´s the plan. It´s all being thought through - every stone is turned. It is of importance that Tottenham is considered to be a club able to win something"

The article says he is no doubt about the following, and is quoted again:
"If one is to move, I would hope it is for a step up. And Tottenham is now on a higher level compared to a few years ago, so there are not that many clubs to chose from."

Juventus and Barcelona are mentioned as former possible destinations, but for this season it is RM that is constantly being mentioned. Eriksen claims he has heard nothing from them:
"Real Madrid is a step up. But there has to be som interest from a club before anything can happen. And that is nothing you yourself can rule over/be the mater of. It has to be RM giving Tottenham a call where they say the might like to have me. As far as I know - no such thing has happened."

The Danish midfield profile does not rule out staying with Tottenham:
"It depends on the options. If something appears that is exciting enough, or if nothing appears that is more exciting than Tottenham. If the latter I will sign a new contract."

The journalist claims that if it is up to Tottenham, the club would like their Danish star to stay, to which Eriksen is quoted:
"They´re really happy to have me, and I´m also extremely happy to be there. There´s really only positive vibes from Tottenham."

I´ve read several of the English papers quoting this interview and some of the nuances have been lost in translation. I´ve tried to correct them above. Obviously the article has been used and abused to get the most clicks and create "sensations", taking quotes out of context etc.

But there is absolutely no question that Eriksen said he would like to sign a new contract if no club he considered to be "a step up" was interested.

If Eriksen is indeed off to United we’d better get two quality midfielders in to replace him.

If he's rejected all our contract offers, there's nothing more we can do!

Must be a kick in the balls for him that Madrid have no interest or Barca too. Personally think he's crazy going to United but if he desperately wants out now then let him go.
