Hopefully he gets at least 45 minutes against Roma, in a line up that features Ivan, Son, Kane & Deki to familiarise himself with their movements. Got a feeling he could be the signing of the summer

Yup agreed. I wanna see him in our strongest 11 with all that movement in front of him including Doherty who’s movement I love. I think he’ll thrive.

I want to add that Southampton won’t be as dangerous without broja, so I honestly think we should play lenglet as their biggest strength will be their crazy high press which lenglet will deal with so much better than Sanchez.

Agreed, they had Adam and Stuart Armstrong up front for their last game, not sure where Che Adams is with his fitness.

No I wasn't talking anyone down. There's a common belief that we have a chance at signing those 2 players. I happen to not share that belief and express it. I'm of the view we shoukd move on to target 3 or 4 and continue on with the squad building. in any event we have a Lcb who just signed on loan. I'd give him the opportunity to see how he performs in the coming months.

Rather than wait for some mythical opportunity of Bastoni or Gvardiol.
You’ve just done it again. “Mythical opportunity” you’re insinuating people who think we have a chance at these players are in dreamland when the club themselves are literally waiting for them. You not agreeing with that and thinking that the club should move on to other targets doesn’t mean others are in cuckoo land for being happy to wait for that chance.

Apparently Adams came on at half time vs Watford so I think he'll be fit enough to start against us if that's the way they decide to go. Not sure who Hasenhuttl will prefer up top, though - he seems to chop and change quite a lot in the forward positions.

I disagree, a fit Davies for me

Davies isnt fit though. He may be for the first game but as it stands he didn't play in rangers game and may not feature against roma, so we have to see. Conte wont start him if he isn't fit.
Yeah unless Davies plays at least 45 vs Roma I'd be very surprised if he starts Saints.

I think it's a straight fight between Sanchez and Lenglet. Whoever Conte starts against Roma will play the first game IMO. Personally I'd like us to go with Lenglet as Sanchez is an accident waiting to happen at LCB, but suspect Conte will opt for PL experience and pick Sanchez.

But we moved onto Lenglet, surely that's doing exactly what you're suggesting we should do?

That's extremely brave bigger clubs are likely to gazump us then.... buy an Ndicka type and develop him.
If we have a good season this year then, with our current income from stadium, TV etc I struggle to see many “bigger clubs”.

I also wouldn’t play Sanchez as left centre back unless absolute emergency.

He has been really good for Conte as a right centre back, but historically even in a back four he has struggled playing the left centre back.

You’d hope if Davies was available that it would definitely be Langlet on that side.

I don't see the point in us signing Lenglet if he is signed as a LCB, plays 2 pre-season games and still can't get ahead of an out of position Sanchez. I wouldn't be surprised but it would be a bizarre move from Conte unless Lenglet has a mare against Roma.

I'm hoping that as is the case with Lucas, Conte is looking at 3rd choice options for important positions in case we get injuries, as LCB requires the most adaptation for a right footer.

If he doesn't play I think it would purely be down to lack of familiarity with the league and Conte's automations.

If Sanchez is playing over Lenglet a month or two into the season then I'd be concerned but I wouldn't read too much into this game.

Thing is, we've got Chelsea the following week, another pressing side. What if Davies is not back for that? Do we want Lenglet starting his first game there? I think Conte should show some faith in him on the first day, providing of course he plays competently against Roma.

Yeah I completely agree and really hope he starts. Sanchez looks like a headless chicken on that side and can easily imagine him giving away a silly pen vs Saints.

I just have a feeling Conte sees things differently to fans and will be taking other things in to account which could lead to Sanchez playing that game even if we disagree with it.

Sanchez did well on the left against Rangers but I don't fancy him there in the league. Hopefully Lenglet will start Saturday and be ready for the opener.

I didn’t see much of the game. Their goal came from the left and our defence seemed to go missing. Also we have always been the poorer as a defensive unit when Sanchez has played on the left. Square pegs and round holes come to mind. Just don’t do it.

How did I know you'd actually use that as an excuse..... it is exactly that. You speak of the club literally waiting for them.... where is the evidence of this ? All you have is internet whispers and nothing more.

But your view is conjecture too. Both views are conjecture so insinuating that others are deluded simply because that's not side of the argument you're on is flatly incorrect. Nobody knows but we know the club were keen on both and we haven't splashed out a big fee on another player for that spot so it's still open to interpretation.
