Yeah in reality I reckon there are handful of well-informed posters that watch football non-stop and form well-rounded opinions on players across multiple leagues. On top of that there's the odd SC user who dabbles in La Liga or Serie A and has some specialist knowledge here and there.

The rest of us are merely depraved transfer junkies looking for the next high. Our opinions are formed from a mish-mash of Youtube comps, Fifa, FM and fifth-hand views based on Twitter, podcasts, news articles, mates down the pub and other SC posters. We're mostly just chatting shit based on half-baked knowledge and then arguing about it fervently as we steadily get more and more attached to our imagined version of the players Spurs are linked to.

Then once the season starts within 3 matches half of the shiny new signings are declared shit, slow and/or a waste of money.

It's truly a thing of beauty.
I could also have winnerd your post too ?

Wouldnt mind a punt on a loan deal, worth the risk, he was awesome at sevilla and had a decent first season with Barca, before he all went wrong. Think he suits a back 3, as not the quickest, and Conte could spark a revival. Even has 17 caps for France, a country for which Laporte didn't get even one.

IMO, while we need cover for Davies, we don't need to spend 60 or 80 mill to gain that. If you look at our last 10 games (approx) he was the best of the 3 CB's. For starters Romero missed the last 3, Dier performed well, but he had a habit of playing loose passes. Even against Norwich, when we were one up, he passed directly to one of their players. The guys shot beat Hugo, but went just wide. Davies on the other hand made numerous blocks, tackles and interceptions, and his pass rate was as good or better than the others. Unfortunately, Ben does not get the credit he deserves from some fans. Lenglet is one of several decent players who can compete with Davies. A guy like Bremer who can fill any of the spots in the back 3, is probably a better bet.

From what we’ve heard and as others have said, it wouldn’t be massively surprising if we ended up with both Bremer and A N Other like Lenglet:

[Bremer]
Davies
Dier
[Lenglet]
Romero
Sanchez

And there’s your six.

From the links so far it seems the most likely scenario. Conte would want a lot of time with the new boys in preseason though I suspect, especially Lenglet (if he’s the one we settle on).

If we spend that much one thing's for sure, he won't be cover for Davies.

Says :
  • Roma & Tottenham had given proposals - Roma already withdrew given
  • Spurs wants a answer soon - Lenglet has 48 hours to accept Spurs offer
  • Barca hopes he goes to us and play in CL - with Spurs offer, Barca could save 10m€

Without asking a silly question, how can this guy be as bad as people say if he plays for Barcelona and is in the French national team?? I'm confused about this.

I'm not going to claim I've seen loads of him over the last 3 or 4 seasons, but it would appear his issue is a mixture of having to play in a back-4, with a high line and ageing players around him. It sounds like it's really knocked his confidence considerably since his time at Sevilla.

A loan with an option would be perfect, because it would give us the chance to see if it's another Deki/Bentancur situation where it's a class player who isn't being played to his strengths, or whether he is actually a bit of a dud.

As a player he isnt bad. Actually he is very good. But the situation at Barca doesn't suit him. With the tactics they play, the CB or DM pairings he has etc. And Barca fans have been pretty vocal against him. But then again he is known to give away pens or goals frequently. But may be a scenery change would bring his old from back

I think this one is being specifically lined up in case Bremer agrees to join us. Makes sense from a budget standpoint.

Does anyone that's watched him think he'd be a good option at CCB? Would be very harsh on Davies if we signed two players that can play LCB.

Lenglet IMO is an excellent CB (or atleast used to be). But he has had a terrible 2019/20 season where he lost form, had red cards, mistakes to goals etc etc. For French team, he was once the preferred starting CB for Deschamps ahead of Laporte. But him going of form meant , he lost his French place which further dented his confidence.

IMO, he has no protection in Barca and their style doesnt suit him. I do back Conte to help him rediscover form in a back3.

I agree, but I also think we need to upgrade dier and Davies if we want to be truly competing. Davies made a fair few mistakes last season, Leaves us vulnerable in the air and isn’t actually great at progressive passing. I like him and he was decent last season, particularly when we play a low block against Liverpool and city but it does not mean he cannot be upgraded for a player who suits contes system and has excellent progressive passing.
Dier I’ve never really liked that much, I think agsin he is decent but he’ll never be elite and always has a big mistake in him.

Quite like the model of signing talented but unfashionable players on loan. Such low risk/high reward. If we bring in Legnet there's bound to be a ton of Barca, Arsenal fans laughing at us for bringing him in due to his recent reputation, but who gives a fuck. With Conte at the helm I have every confidence that he can improve a player like Legnet and play to his strengths.

It's so easy to forget how important the system is to the success of a defender. There are very few defenders in world football that can deal with being repeatedly exposed 1v1 in oceans of space. Even John Terry looked got routinely embarrassed under AVB when forced to play a high line, but was brilliant for Chelsea when they played a system that suited him.
