Disagree he lost his head for that tackle. Yes, stupid for the petulant kick out moments before but not the actual red card tackle.

You go into a tackle to win the ball and it is automatic you follow through. You don’t go into a tackle and stop your leg half way for fear of the follow through as that then becomes a block tackle and if you’ve ever played football, block tackles or half hearted tackles are the ones that you will end up injuring yourself by rupturing your knee and always told never to do.

Letter of the law it maybe is a red card, and obviously is frustrating that it cost us, just like Udogie did, but still love them both. Calling it his last chance is plain ridiculous.

He has definitely calmed down this season, yesterday was that sort of game, it nearly always kicks off when we play them.
hopefully a 3 match ban will focus his mind and future behaviour

Yeah I don’t buy the all or nothing argument with him. He can still play with an aggressive style and learn to use his brain at the same time.
Which he has done in the previous 10 league games this season. Including Arsenal away and Liverpool at home. He has massively improved that side of his game. And I'd say his kick out was worse than the actual red card incident. He cleared the ball and followed through on to the leg. Not much he could do with that.

Shit happens, he is a world cup winner, you can rely on him 95% of the time
1 red card a season = missing for 3 games from 38 which is about 8% of the season he’s missing for, if you also count likely costing us in the game he is sent off in and make it essentially 3.5/4 games then that’s nearly 10% of the league season you can’t rely on him alone. If he picks up multiple books or a few injuries that’s more games where we can’t rely on him.

If it was 95% of the time where we could rely on him then great but the reality imo is that he will cost us 10-20% of the time and if we have big aspirations to eventually compete for and win titles then I’d argue that is too much, you don’t see Man.City’s defenders regularly season in season out getting suspended for challenges and behaviour which could be avoided.

Top top player yes but needs to learn from this now and adapt his game slightly.

I think some people in here need to calm down a bit! Ok he screwed up we all agree on that but he has been nothing short of world class this season up until that moment. He is an aggressive player and we just have to accept that sometimes things like this will happen. Hopefully he will learn from this but part of what makes him so good is that aggression that he has.

All due respect mate I don’t think people need to ‘calm down’ he let us down in a big game twice if you count the kick out which really should’ve been a red as well.

People are just rightfully saying that whilst he’s been brilliant this year and he had seemingly improved his disciplinary record, him getting another red is disappointing and if we have aspirations to win titles then he needs to cut out these types of things moving forwards.

Tbh with his playing style something like that tackle happening you probably do have to accept from time to time and you'd hope that over the season the benefits outweigh what he might rack up in suspensions.

My issue is with the entirely dumb shit. Last night what kicked things off was him going senselessly chasing to Chelsea's goal line - this wasn't pushing them back, it was a total lost cause with no hope of impacting the play and no Spurs player following him. From this point on he was never back in position, got involved in a couple of skirmishes (and could easily have been red carded prior to eventually walking), was AWOL for Sterling's disallowed goal and not there to help Porro, and it was only at the point of the red card that he'd eventually got back to his position.

Last week it was an absolutely nonsensical cross-field "pass" to a Palace player to try and gift them an equaliser.

He's been given responsibilities to try and bring out even more in him as a player. So far this season it's by and large worked, but there is a ton more room for improvement. "Leaders" above all play smart and do the sensible. I'd have hoped AP had a really stern word today, because last night was a total fail.

Let's not forget he was nomited for the player of the month for October

Jan Vertonghen played here for 8 seasons - only once did he play in 35 or more league games.
Super Jan 232 appearances 36 yellows 1 red card.

Romero 60 appearances 18 yellows 2 red cards. Multiply this by 4 to match Jan’s appearance total and Romero would be on 72 yellows and 8 reds 🤣

Jan’s discipline vs Romero’s is night and day mate, he rarely lost his head or was overly aggressive.

You suggested we could not rely on Romero if he misses 3 games a year.

Jan started, 19, 22, 36, 33, 29, 31, 23, and 24 league

We don't toss aside a good CB who misses 3 games a year.

I’m sure most people won’t agree with me but I think he needs replacing.

I’m sure we could get an equally competent defender who wouldn’t bring the baggage.

No players has received more red cards or given away more penalties in the PL since his Spurs debut. And he manages to do it consistently in the biggest games, costing us vital results.

We obviously won’t be selling him and plenty of people including the manager love him, but personally I think he’s become a bit of an embarrassment.

"He can't be relied upon" and yet it's his first direct red card for reckless foul in his career and it will be overall his 2nd suspension in Premier League in nearly 2,5 years.

He watched Battle of the Bridge and thought that sort of challenge was ok . The atmosphere was electric last night with the crowd baying for blood and thunder . Went to his head that’s all . More depth in the squad needed, not shipping out one of the most improved players

Right but you know what people mean; it's not like we don't have a litany of big reckless moments to point to.

- Tackle on Xhaka in the NLD in Jan
- Cucurella hair pull (absolutely daft thing to do)
- Could've gone against Milan in the first leg
- Was sent off against Milan for a daft challenge in the second leg, which killed the game
- Silly kick out and then a daft challenge yesterday

He's a live by the sword die by the sword player who's done more than enough good to get some slack, but he has this reputation for a reason. If you try to 'fix' him, you might get a worse player; that's the risk we take. But yesterday, the team needed clear heads and he didn't provide that.

I agree, but although it might sound strange, that makes it feel worse. I thought something had switched on in his head and yet he’s at it again.

Don’t agree about the red card. He simply didn’t need to clean the man out in the way he did.

Not calling for us to sell him, but at some point he has to learn to control himself.

💯

It saddens me to see how quickly people turn on our own players. The list is endless - and Romero is just the latest - but we have seen the impact on other players when the fans turn on them.

It was a bad situation. But, not one where Romero was shitting on the shirt, or disrespecting the club/fans. We need to be a bit more accepting that sometimes good players make bad plays.

Have the fans turned on him? No one is booing him, they are just saying he acted like a twat and lost us the game with an action he's done before and this was against Chelsea, the next team after Arsenal we want to beat more than any other. People are frustrated and venting, in 3 games time he'll still get cheered when they call his name out when announcing the team.
