Close to another straight red just then, HAS to tone it down/cut that out!

If he’d been out for another 3 games that would’ve been such a huge blow for us.

Its 4 games for a 2nd red for violent conduct.

He's a very lucky boy and I'd hope the squad has a word with him and lets him know he can't let the team down like that.

Gary Neville going ooooooh is part of the reason there's a bigger issue around it every time its about Romero..

Yeah, and because Romero has a history of rash tackles also I guess.

But no one has made a fuss over ones worse than his today and I would feel if it was a red we would have had enough similar challenges that were yellow or not even booked to appeal anyway.

There have been so many much worse than Romero‘s on Wilson today where nothing has been given.
One that still annoys me is Nketia on Vicario in the NLD. Now that was a definite Red

Just needs to time his madness better. It’s never a bad thing though having that seed of doubt in every opponents minds that they’re about to get murdered any second

Trippiers on Kulu just after was a bad challenge, much later than Romero's too, but didn't garner the same reaction whatsoever.

Meh, I wouldn't change him because it's what makes him.
Although, I'd like to have slightly better cover for him than we currently do.

One minute, we all want him to get retribution on Pratty Cash, the next minute we're complaining because he went in hard on Wilson.
We can't have a selective enforcer, we either have one and deal with the consequences, or we don't have one at all.

Romero is a great player. Is he rash? Of course he is but you've got to take the rough with the smooth, with that sort of player.
Sell him in the summer?! Fuck off.

Maybe, but that tackle tonight wasn't like the Chelsea one (which wasn't a red IMO still) or as bad as others similar since his red card. So not sure why people are over reacting

I think today's one was way worse than the Chelsea one. That was a little unlucky more than anything. Today's looked like he was trying to do him

Second sentence is an understatement and probably the undoing of our season so far, which without trying to sound negative we all knew the failure to sign a 2nd cb would be risky. Tbf I wanted to sign a more experienced player than vdv as I didn’t believe he’d be ready to perform at the high level he has. Tbf it’s probably a sliding doors moment which has benefited us in the long wrong tbh

He actually slipped which is why his left follows through on the opponent. It happened to many in the 2 d half today. It happens to Romero and the knives come out
Come on Million, there's sticking up for our own players and not being objective enough, even if he did slip, he didn't slip when he had another go at him in the same challenge.

It was reckless and unnecessary and if it had been another red we couldn't have complained and he would effectively have been out for 7 games out of 9 in a period where we have little to no cover in that position, and what's worse, he knows it.

100%. He has an agenda with him. It's funny that the Newcastle players don't react to it , the ref gives a yellow and var agreed. Yet the ones who are saying it could or should be a red are the ones who watch on TV with the narrative created by Neville. If Hojbjerg does the same thing (a tackle he does at tines himself) it's not going to be talked about.

The Newcastle players did react to it. That's what caused the headbutting incident with Bassouma

He seemed much more composed when VDV was playing alongside him - maybe because he didn’t have to do so much defending, don’t know. Weird how since he’s been back from his ban, he’s reverted to a bit of silliness in terms of diving in a bit dangerously…

Honestly if he wasn’t just back from suspension that was a red all day. He seriously needs to cut these challenges out. He’s a very very lucky boy! And we are lucky too as losing him would be an absolute disaster again.

I’ve been struggling to find words to describe how I feel; this is the best I’ve seen anyone put it. We can’t change him. He’s been like this his entire career and he’s one of the best central defenders in the world. We just have to let him be him and most importantly buy top class cover/competition. I think, at least for me, my anger lies with the defensive personnel situation we’d be in if Romero got suspended again rather than Romero himself. I’ve come to accept that this is his play style, and the good outweighs the bad by a mile.

It’s all well and good saying this, but we have no cover and he knows this. If we had cover I wouldn’t mind him playing the way he wants but he needs to think of the team aswell.

Problem is and regardless of whether there have been worse tackles, he is now a marked man, refs watch, hear and read what we do and he can’t keep doing this. We miss him so much when he’s out and he is an experienced, World Cup winning defender and has to learn what you can and can’t do. Sadly I do t think he will now.

Also a fair point. I’m sure he felt like he let the team down after Chelsea, but I honestly don’t think he’s ever going to change his style no matter how many times he does it.

That’s why we need another CB more than any other position in January! If Richy comes good now we can wait till summer for another striker.
