I love Romero and categorically do NOT want him gone, no matter how fucking stupid he can be.

That said, without a third CB anywhere close to the ability of him and van de Ven, him being suspended right now would have been worthy of a Monty Python fish slap.

I would kind of understand that type of idiocy if we were losing by a goal and our players were hyped to get back into a game, but why the actual fuck would you even make that challenge when 3-nil up!?

In short, love his ability but hate his insistence on playing the fool.

The only downside to today. Utterly brainless.
Yep and to those who previously said “ah it’s just part of how he plays etc” or “he’s so good we just have to put up with it” and “ah he’s only had 3 reds for us he only misses a few games here and there” showed to me what a huge concern it is, these aren’t 2x bookings red cards that centre mids get from a few mistimed tackles, these are reckless, dangerous out of control challenges which will cost us hugely if it means he’s out for another 3-4 games.

He’s a great player, and when he’s at it he’s a joy to watch.

But we can’t afford to have someone like him constantly on the sidelines through suspension. Our recent run of bad form is arguably on his shoulders; as well as the injuries to Van De Ven and Maddison.
Yep, controversial but for me if he can’t/wont sort this out and calm himself and his tackling down or change his technique I’d sell him in summer.

I may get some disagrees there but if we want to build a team to challenge for titles and trophies etc we CANNOT have a player like Romero costing us say twice a season for 6-7 games due to suspension because those games we then draw or lose like we have since he’s been out will cost us titles and trophies.

He’s a fantastic defender but there are other fantastic defenders who aren’t reckless like that, take Van Der Ven for example.

I’m moving more towards the sell if we can summer I really am.

I know some will disagree with that but the standards teams play at now we cannot afford to have players like that who are a liability.

Look he is a player I am in love with and I like players who play with passion and a bit of aggression, but it has to be controlled aggression. He was lucky he stayed on today. If that tackle was on one of ours by an opponent, we will be shouting and expecting a Red card.

He actually slipped which is why his left follows through on the opponent. It happened to many in the 2 d half today. It happens to Romero and the knives come out
He didn’t slip, it was a horrible tackle and should’ve been a red, we are very very lucky it wasn’t. It would’ve totally ruined everything positive today.

Ange and Son need to have a word.

Romero shouldn’t be vice captain either if he keeps tackling like this.

Ridiculous challenge at 3 up. Honestly don't know what you can do with him, he ain't gonna change. Can only hope his defending wins us more games, than his rashness loses them.

Ange needs to have a word really. Even a more tamed Romero is better than any other option we have. Way too close to having to go back to Emerson and Davies at CB.

He did slip on the follow through but shouldn't have got so hard in the first place. If he doesn't fly in he doesn't lose his footing. I'm not excusing the challenge, it was needless but he does slide which causes the follow through with the left boot.

Any chance of a retrospective ban or is this issue closed now with VAR?

I think he will escape further punishment. The referee saw the situation and gave him a yellow card and VAR probably ruled it out as a major error. We are very lucky.

Of course he shouldn't be sold... he's a world class defender with a ruthless style you don't see that often in modern football..... and he can play football on top... but he definately needs to be more mature in certain situations. I hope Ange can help him.

And yes... we need a 3rd quality CB... no matter what. We can't just realy on VDV and Romero...

The Wild Bull of the Pampas. When the mist descends he looks like he's smashed out of his skull on mescaline.

He needs to cut it out or we need to get rid. There's no point having a first choice defender thats only available for half the season. He absolutely should have been sent off tonight and we should be without him for 4 games. I assume they can't do things retrospectively anymore?
