I've had plenty to say previously on Sanchez but I'll say it again. Good enough to be a squad player, not good enough to start. The odd start in the Cup etc I'm absolutely fine with as when on it, he's a solid defender. But he shouldn't be starting games in the Prem or CL.
But then he’s not good enough to be a squad player? A squad player is someone who can fill in when required regardless of the situation. We shouldn’t be carrying players if they can only get cup minutes

Squad player can still get plenty of minutes from the bench.

More than happy to see him come on to see out a game as an extra defender or fresh legs. Or for Cup games etc as already stated. Those situations combined make him a squad player in my eyes.

worst I have seen in our shirt. Total lack of footballing ability. Just an athlete with the odd succesful last ditched tackle. Emerson Royal a close second.

I saw a similar comment about Emerson. Worst player I've seen in a Spurs shirt... What are people 2 years old? There have been many worse over the years. Sanchez is a decent player but one who should be upgraded if we really want to push on.

Are you too young to remember Mitchell Thomas, Kevin Scott, Andy Gray, Stuart Nethercott etc?

So true. However, we do need to upgrade upon Sanchez, Dier and Emerson in order to move forward
I agree there is always room for improvement. I am very interested to see what we do in January.

But thinking any of our current crop are among the worst ever is hyperbolic nonsense.

Sanchez is not helped by a) the quality of the players he effectively replaced in the side (Alderweirald and Vertonghen), b) the quality of the player he is backing up (Romero) or c) the quality of player he is playing alongside (Emerson/Doherty one side, Dier the other and Lloris behind him). All of these make him look worse that he actually is. He is cumbersome on the ball, but it wouldn’t anywhere near as glaring if the players around him were confident and comfortable in possession, and asking these players to play out from the back is madness and I actually feel a bit sorry for them being told to do something that they simply cannot do to a high level

Might be good enough as a squad player (I'm not convinced) but some players have to go and he has to be towards top of the list. Been around a long time and but for a decent ten game period which everyone always harps back to he's been very disappointing. Poor on the ball, always has an error in him, and he's come to represent that weak 'roll-over' attitude that still lingers around our squad.

He is a squad player and a decent one at that. Against Newcastle, both him and Lenglet started quite well, however the sheer panic caused by a combined Dier/Lloris started to spread to him and our defence crumbled.

I remember Jose saying in his Chelsea days that he wanted 2 quality players in every position. That's ok if you have the money (and can acquire the players) but the fact is right now even our starting 11 is not quality in every position, let alone their back-ups.

At the very least we need a quality RWB and a quality Centre Half. We could just about get away with;
RWB -- Romero -- CH -- Lenglet -- Sess / Perisic (was Reguilon so much worse than these two?)

Maybe Spence is that RWB - in which case a new CH in January would improve us. Dier is a great servant and I've seen the bloke have outstanding games over the years, but if we insist on persevering with him (and others) we will continue our trophy-less period.

We also need upgrades for Lucas and Gil so any 3 from 6 up front.

Was not good enough 4 yrs ago and still not good enough, I have friends who laugh at the fact he is still at our club.

The thing with Sanchez is that he shouldn't be filling in on that RCB side, he doesn't have the ball carrying or the passing ability required and that lacking is only amplified by Romero being the regular player there.

I think Royal looked better and did more in the limited minutes after he moved there than Sanchez did for the whole of the match before. If he has a place in the squad it should be as a swap in for Dier as a more defensive central backstop, but really I just don't think he fits anywhere right now.

'Worst' may be a bit harsh, but at £38 million all those years ago, he's not far off being a similar waste of money to Ndombele in real terms. He's a crap defender, but I wouldn't say 'worst'.
