At which stage does potential become erm... realised? Surely Poch should be helping him to improve and realise that potential? Can you safely say Sanchez is better now than two years ago? I cant say for certain that is the case which then means one of two things

Either Poch cant help him realise his potential

or

Sanchez doesnt have the potential most of us think he has/had.

I think he is ok but it is obvious that when he plays the opposition target him as a weak point.
Or you’re not the best person to judge a young centreback...

Some of the posts in this thread, actually this entire forum at the moment are absolutely laughable.

Shows what I know... I was telling someone at the game that Id thought he'd had a good start to the season! This was before their goal admittedly.

He's just the latest scapegoat when in reality this team has been utter rubbish since around January

Certainly made a mistake with his positioning (like at least half the rest of the team) on Sunday, but that Joelinton is no joke. He's a handful and no mistake.

Having watched both goals we've conceded at home this season I'm sadly reaching the conclusion that Danny Rose is the weak link defensively. Yes Sanchez could have done better but equally our midfield could do a way better job of screening the centre halves so that the opposition players don't have an age to pick out a pass over the top of our defence. Most importantly on Sunday Rose can see the picture and doesn't call out to Sanchez to re-position or come across to cover him, this was pretty much the same against Villa and while I love Rose I can begin to see why Poch wants to move him on. Davies is a better defender and reputationally at least (I haven't watched enough of him to comment directly) Sess is better going forward.

I personally rate Sanchez and his been left out to dry a bit.

Joelinton goal was blamed on him which to me was totally out of order as Rose wasn't in position and there was no challenge on the ball coming in.

I really hope Pochettinho persists with Sanchez and makes him first choice for the greater good of our team moving forward.

I still dont get this idea that when opponents run right down the middle of the park past our midfielders and CBs and score its primarily the fullbacks' fault.

if you look at both of those goals its actually Toby who's all by himself doing fuck-all.

That's probably why...That is just basic defending really, Rose should be on the cover and helping Sanchez out.

But all in all the whole team didn't defend that very well in all honesty

roll that back about two seconds and that right winger was much closer to Rose and then pulled up.

He wasn't at all, you can see it here, he wasn't even making a run, when Atsu had the ball Rose should have been sprinting to cover - Atsu had about 3 touches, it was obvious where he was gonna put it.

its unavailable in the states but I watched it elsewhere. there's a runner on the right that pulls up. there's only one guy in the middle for 2 CBs to contend with.

Again, to single out a fullback for not adequately backing up two defenders with one man to deal with strikes me as odd.

Not according to this video, the winger isn't even running, he's calling for the ball, Rose needed to recognise that when Atsu had the ball besides if he did carry on running the danger still would have been Joelinton as it's more central to the goal and more of a threat.

You can't get away from it it's poor defending by Rose although like I said the whole team didn't defend it very well but Rose is probably the biggest culprit here.

@fortworthspur Not sure if you can see this one but you can see the replay, the winger isn't running and nowhere near a threat on goal, Rose had so much time to get back and cover - very disappointing.

Davinson wasn't close enough to Joelinton, he should have had the guy in his peripherals and he also didn't play in line with the other threes offside line.

Rose had the visual benefit of seeing Joelinton peel off but was ball watching and as such, too late to cover his teammate.

For me both were in the wrong. Ultimately it was Davinsons job to ensure Joelinton didn't get that kind of gifted space but Danny needs to be more alert to the dangers.

I'm a fan of Sanchez but his positioning is poor here. He's keeping Joelinton onsides -- Sanchez should be even with Toby. He's not trusting the high line. Nitpicking he's also probably a step (or two) too far away from Joelinton.

But yeah, Danny Rose's positioning is equally poor -- he is way out on an island there and needs to recognize the situation and get closer to Joelinton.
