First problem was Sissoko not closing down Atsu quick enough, which drew Toby over and out toward him, which in turn pulled Sanchez across. As Lescott said at half time, their distances were right. As Sanchez moves across, as he should, he motions to Rose, who just doesn’t follow. He’s the one who can see everything and he just doesn’t react until after it’s too late.

If the midfield closed down earlier though, none of this happens.

I don’t think the problem is Sanchez’ vertical positioning. If Sanchez is a metre further up then he doesn’t catch Joelinton offside because the striker would have placed himself off his shoulder.

The problem is Sanchez’ body shape is all wrong. He’s ball watching when he should open his body up to have an awareness of where Joelinton is.

Rose should also be a lot closer to Joelinton. Even a couple of metres would have made a difference. And you’d like to think an experienced centreback lack Rose would help his defender out.

Midfield is also nowhere. Needs to be a lot quicker to shield the defence.

I'd add Sissoko to the list of problems identified here . We see this a lot : Standing off

Why doesn't he close down the assister before he crosses ?

Genuinely schoolboy from Rose. Surely everyone is coached to sweep round when the ball is on the opposite side? Leaving a massive gaping hole in the defence is inexcusable. To do it twice in 3 games is beyond comprehension.

What are they being coached? Sanchez has massively regressed since not being next to the one defender Poch seems to have alienated. Ironic that Poch is too stubborn to not only play the one defender that makes his replacement look up to scratch

Yeah Sissoko is way too slow to close down, Sanchez’ body shape is poor, and Rose is just not switched on.. Wonder if Rose was worried about being switched his side? cos just a few minutes earlier Newcastle broke and nearly scored from there, in fact if the guy had crossed it, he had two unmarked in our area.

Look at that pic and its exactly the same reason we conceded against City. KWP was ball watching and didnt know where Sterling was and Sanchez is clearly ball watching with no idea that Joelinton is in the hole behind him.

We switch off when crosses come in. Its always been a problem we have had..whether that be from corners or standard crosses.

Crazy, It's almost as if they're the two youngest players in the team

I think the real inquisition about that goal should be to do with how Atsu played the first decent pass of his career, and it just had to be against us.

Shit little ****.

I see KWP is not very tight to his man.
I see Toby anticipates that the guy with the ball will breeze past KWP, so is motoring in behind.
He can't risk holding the line.
Atzu is already in too much space and no-one picking him up.
Sanchez possibly was holding the line then has been caught out, with his man in space.

This chaos is not why we lost the game. We didn't score.

Crazy, its almost as if this hasnt been happening for over 5 seasons and been a bad trait of ours even pre-Poch.

Excuses run thin. This falls under Coaching so should be sorted by now.

Didn't we have the best defence in Europe 4 seasons ago
The second best 3 seasons ago
And the 3rd best in England 2 seasons ago...were Sanchez was main stay I might add

You lot are funny with your panic and witch hunts this week :ROFLMAO:

Er, it’s exactly why we lost the game. Granted we never looked like scoring, but if we don’t concede awful goals then at the very least we get a point.

Rose has been absolutely rancid the first three games.

I can’t believe he’s still here, and nor can he. He’s clearly really unsettled.

He’s way passed his peak now unfortunately. He won’t ever get near to how he was a few seasons ago. Defensively he’s a liability.

Who is panicking? Im not buying into all of the panic and the Poch rumours tbh.

Ive just stated a couple of facts about the goals we conceded recently as everyone was talking about who was at fault etc.

I feel its something we have always struggled with and its frustrating that its still happening imo

Well technically you are right. But...

For me it wasn't unexpected that we might let in a goal with a rookie RB and a RCB playing as a LCB. What was unexpected was that our first choice strike force would create so few chances and take none, against one of clubs likely to be struggling.
