How many minutes did Phillips play for Blackburn last year? I thought he’d only played a handful of games.

While I think it’s probably a good thing to show these youngsters that there’s a direct path to the first team if they can step up, I still think it’s a little reckless to go into the season with only two centre backs that are established and suitable for the role.

But if Ange is happy, we should trust him.

Good points mate, we could sign a defender in January but ofc it'll be more difficult then and options are more limited.

Royal at RCB would be interesting in this system for sure.

I trust Ange anyways, he'd not let Sanchez go unless he had a plan in mind.

Wish him all the best either way. With him and Tanguy leaving. That clears up another 2 non hg spots. Which is great to hear and puts us in a better position for future windows.

I agree that we should have definitely signed another CB and are a bit light now, but I trust what we have and the youngsters to step up if required.

Everyone can have an opinion on how light we are, you can either be optimistic or pessimistic, I choose to be optimistic about all of this.

So the squad for this season looking likely to be:

17 Non-HG:
Vicario, Porro, Emerson, Romero, VDV, Dier, PEH, Bentancur, Bissouma, Lo Celso, Gil, Solomon, Kulusevski, Perisic, Son & Richarlison

8 HG:
Forster, Austin, Whiteman, Davies, Sessegnon, Skipp, Maddison & Johnson

4 U21:
Udogie, Phillips, Sarr & Veliz

29 seems like a lot of players, but 2 of those are GKs that are unlikely to play any matches this season (one of them out injured). Also Sess, Gil and Bentancur are out for another couple of months. So that takes realistic squad size down to 25 for the moment.

I also wonder whether we'll see Dier again or whether he'll be frozen out.

Rather see Donnington get a chance in the squad ahead of Dier.

Phillips fine as 4th choice CB but selling Sanchez now means Phillips becomes 3rd choice and either Dier or Dorrington or Davies 4th choices, if Romero or VDV or both get injured or suspended etc bye bye our chances of CL etc.

Its a business not sporting decision as usual, we also don't need the money, its pennies in terms of the fee.

100% agree as always financial wins out over footballing. When will it changer if ever under ENIC.
No choice but hope Ange can sort out the mess caused by Levy.
