Don’t think he should be immune from the same criticism Romero is getting. He was a bellend tonight too.
He's 20. He was too hyped to be the player we know he can be. Plenty more fantastic performances to come. Don't know that I'd be calling him a bellend.

It was his stupid challenge on Sterling that started things unraveling for us. The occasion got to him.

The kid has been fantastic all season so far but he really got caught up in the emotions of the game. He is one of the best young players in Europe. let alone the league, hopefully he will learn a lot about composure from this experience.

His one major fault is getting booked first half. Happened too often and cost him today. Was lucky to not go straight away.

Hopefully he learns from this. He is a great player, but that needs work.

I have confidence that Destiny will learn from this and grow as a player. I can’t say the same for Mr Romero.

Yeah, I don't disagree. Just pointing out that he's 20 and playing in a huge occasion. The first was stupidly rash. The second was desperation. I don't think it warrants calling him a bellend. I don't see it be a massive issue going forward.

Romero has barely put a foot wrong all season. His temperament and such has actually improved.

The kick out was stupid, but he was a bit unlucky for the actual red. He wasn't trying to do the player he just cleared the ball and caught him with the follow through.

Romero kick out is what earned his red today. VAR is looking for scalps to get credit in bank and stupid Romero gave it to them

I think it's just the mentality. Win the ball and leave a bit on the other player if you can. This time he went a bit too far. Happens. But I do think it was a bit more than 'just clearing the ball'.

They called it petulant but not dangerous.
So, Romero was asking for it, begging for it.
VAR couldnt wait to give what he was asking for.
My point is that if they wanted to punish him for the kick they could’ve sent him off. No need to wait for a ‘scalp’. I think that’s a reach. They could’ve also sent Udogie packing for his one but they didn’t.

Quite. As I said earlier, his reactions put him into the position to clear the ball/block it/get a toe to it/whatever. There was no need or reason to make the tackle in the manner that he did.

Lost his head in the first half.

Should have been off in the first twenty minutes.

Red card wasn't solely on him though.

He never should have come out for the second half.

The moment he walked out for the second half everyone knew he wasn't finishing that game.

Chelsea got a gift.

So VAR were on a mission to send players off but turned down not one but two opportunities to (justifiably) send players off. Does that make sense to you when you read it back?

I agree, if VAR wanted scalps they'd have sent Udogie and Romero off at the first time of asking (both could *easily* have been reds). Anything else is just tinfoil hat nonsense.

Agree that Romero has hardly put a foot wrong, but that doesn't mean last night wasn't a cock up.

The original poster said that he had confidence that Destiny would learn from his mistake but couldn't say the same for Romero. How is that an unfair comment? Are you confident Romero will eradicate these needlessly over the top tackles from his game? If so, how is this red different to his previous ones? He gets sent off every 18 games, on average.

I also disagree with your assessment of his tackle. He got the ball but his follow through was purposive. You don't need to tackle like that, with that much force. Jones got sent off against us for doing something similar to Bissouma and I thought that was red. Actually Jones slipped over the ball and didn't have as much tenacity/aggression as Romero's. If anything VAR was lenient towards us last night. Destiny could have gone for his two footer too. I don't think you have to break someone's leg to see red.

Thought the second yellow was somewhat harsh. He was making a honest attempt at the ball and the foul itself wasn't all that bad. I think it was a case of the first yellow being borderline red that the ref was going to look for anything to send him off at the next opportunity.

Dont really buy into this much personally, Sky were just pushing that as the narrative they decided on and repeated it about 20 times. Was glad Ange didnt buy it in his post match.

The atmosphere was really pumped and udogies lost his composure amongst it all. Hopefully he'll learn from it going forwards.

Its a "first offence" with Udogie but unfortunately with Romero he now has quite an extensive track record so its not quite the same thing.

Theres also a degree of pre meditation with Romero a lot of the time which makes it all the more pointless. Udogies gone in to win the ball twice imo, albeit dangerously on the first attempt - Romeros gone for a ball he knew he was going to get first and just made sure he'd stick one on the attacker in our own box, hoping he could disguise it as a follow through, and its backfired.

Is it a 1 match ban or 2 for Udogie? He was an idiot last night but there’s still no doubt we’re better with him in the team.
