Perisic, Bissouma, Richarlison and Lenglet (even Forster) are all 25+. Most of our signings this window have been for the now. Nothing wrong with adding some young talent on top of that.
Bissouma & Richarlison are 25. Spence 21. These are long term transfers that will benefit the now! They are not strictly NOW players.

I'm torn, because this guy is a legitimately awesome looking prospect and I love the idea of future-looking deals.

But on the other hand, our window is NOW, with Kane and Son hitting 30 and Conte being here. No guarantee what the club looks like in 2024. I hope we have something else planned for this season. I would sell the kingdom for a trophy at this point.
I think we had ITK (maybe last summer) that we have a separate budget for young prospects. If we’re spending this on Udogie, it will hopefully not impact other potential deals.

Looks like a quality player for the future!

Ok so if West Ham can get James Richardson to do an announcement video then we can get Lionel Ritchie.

I like the deal and I like the player but tbh I don’t really understand why we are after a LWB. Yes Perisic is 33 but you wouldn’t expect him to be gone next summer and Sessegnon is surely set to keep improving. Signing players for the future is always great but there are perhaps better areas to invest long term in.
Because he’s a beast who’s talent goes way beyond sess. He’s just turned 19 and after another season in serie a will come in to work under conte the wing back whisperer to turn him into a world beater. He’s the exact kind of talent who in 2 years will be 50m and signed by inter or juve and we’ll he saying why the hell didn’t we snap him up. Wings backs are key to contes system and we need very good options.

Don't worry we've got Juve keeping Vlahovic warm for us.

Getting players in like this kid and Sarr is exactly what we need to be doing along side the 'now' players - Sarr I think looks like he could be top class in the future and so does this kid - get one or two more in like these guys and you are building a very strong squad in the future. It's all very sensible.

Is he effective at bursting past his man on the outside and getting to the byline to deliver? This is something Sess, Doherty and Emerson all really struggle with.

And does anyone know if he can also play LB in a back 4? Would be useful for the future if we go to a back 4 under a new manager in 4-5 years time.

In the video's I have seen of him he reminds me a bit of Spence in that he looks quick and strong, this kid looks like he might have better technique than Spence though but possibly not the same burst of speed that Spence has though he is certainly not slow at all.

The thing about this news that is the most positive for me is that along with his statement earlier in the week about working in the future and growing our young team this guy coming in adds to the possibility of Conte being with us for a good while longer.

Udogie vs Chelsea last week

Matches quite well against Reece James. 1 more year of senior league season, he should be ready next season (if we buy & loan back)

I agree that we shouldn't sign him because there's no point planning for the future. We should focus on the here and now only. If we need a left wingback in 2 years we should pay massive money on a player who has already developed. No point getting them early before their price shoots up :cautious:

Would rather see him compete here with Doherty and Spence than go on loan. He already looks like he'd offer more going forward than Emerson.

But maybe that's just the terms on which they'd sell him.

Edit: I'm an idiot. Got confused. But I'll leave this here so people can have a laugh!

It wouldn’t be a thread on SC nowadays without someone mentioning RWB
