I think he's got the potential to be a decent RCB in a 3 and make a similar transition to Davies. Some of his penalty box defending yesterday - especially the header against Grealish in the first half - was excellent.
Especially now we have Porro.

Anyone else think he’d be a good option to replace Romero now he’s banned?
Yep.

I've been saying for a while he should be starting as our RCB. He has all the attributes for it, and it mitigates his worst qualities. With the way Dier was playing as a pressing CCB, I was reminded of how Romero played that exact role at Atlanta. For me, I'd go with Romer CCB and Emerson RCB (when both are available, obvs). We'd have a much more mobile backline that way. Emerson can push up into midfield like he's doing now in the reverse Davies role. It means we can get Porro in the side, too.

Can we all just agree now that he is not a shit player, or "the worst player to wear the shirt", and he's actually a decent player who hasn't been playing(for whatever reason) as well as he clearly can.
I would like to go one step further. He is clearly a good player who is meant to play full back and not wingback. He is young and you can’t knock his hustle. His weakest attributes are magnified in conte’s system where he looks Sissoko-esque: rough touch and not the best on the ball. That being said, I think in most other systems he would be considered solid and would be a clear first choice? Is he world class? Likely not. Would he be a clear number one in most sides? Likely yes.

IIRC, he also pocketed Grealish last year at the stadium. Something to consider when analyzing this performance.

How good was his performance? So good that he doesn’t even have to do his own highlight reel. Enjoy!

I know he had a running start but outpacing Walker at 0:44 is impressive, didn’t realise it was Walker he left in his wake at the time

Also to add his lung capacity is head and shoulders above the rest of our team
Not higher than Hojbjerg, he was a machine. They both were yesterday, 2 of our fittest players but also 2 of our less appreciated. All teams need players like those who run through walls. Actually Davies was also looking his best again and also seems to put his body on the line too.

Kinda reminds me of how Davies and Trippier helped push Walker and Rose ahead in their game. Competition is crucial. I also like the idea of him playing RCB, it then ties in with my fifa lineup too.

Respectfully, his touch is good and his passing is good. He just can't cross. His ball playing is nothing like Sissoko. He did one hilarious no look pass, one. I'm not saying he's Xavieque, but he's a way better passer than sissoko

Oh I agree he was great yesterday on all facets and posted as much numerous times on the match thread. But the overall point that he’s better in big games in actually unsurprising given his skillset
He was excellent against Fulham. Not our biggest game of the season.

I definitely think playing the better teams in the league where we have (even less possession) than normal is where he shows his quality. He's got an engine on him, can defend well, and that shows in these situations. Its the matches where we need him to turn goal/assist creator for wingback that he struggles a bit. So pleased that we got in Porro as I think they can work together well depending on the opponent and situation

Another Royal command performance. He was so impressive yesterday and had me shouting at the TV every time he won the ball. Wait in line Pedro, it might be a while!
