Is he eligible to play for the first team in domestic competitions? I know we didn't register him for Europe.
Any player on our books under the age of 21 can play in domestic competitions without being registered in the 25 man squad.

Was going to save until after the game and hopefully he proves me wrong in the remainder of this match, but what kind of full back is he? Defensively poor, offensively poor, not good on the ball, not overly quick? I am concerned at this stage

Eh? Apart from the first two minutes I thought he was excellent. Handled Saint Maximam so well that he switched sides the moment he tried to get at him.

New to the league, 22 years old, hard worker and other parts of his game will improve over time. One that I really like what I’ve seen so far.

He's a good player but my word the play acting is unreal.

He is a bit meh but definitely we will see with time Definitely better than Doherty. As I mentione dint he match thread, we need consistency int he backline and would keep them intact for a significant run of games now. Let them settle together

Agree re the play acting and actually Romero and GLC are the same with the play acting.... I dare come to a conclusion... haha

i said it after last week, he’s dependable. i feel comfortable with a right back at the club for the first time since kyle walker. that’s a start!

Interesting that I am largely alone in thinking he is poor. Still not clear from the feedback what kind of right back he is. Offensive or Defensive I.e. is he an attacking weapon or a safe player like Wan-Bissaka as an example.

As others have said it has only been 4 or so games but what were his strengths in the rest of his career, what was the player that we identified as am not seeing it as major all round upgrade.

To me he just seems awkward going forward so to me Aurier had more in that department but seems better defensively so an upgrade in that area.

I have now waited until after the game, I still thought the first 30 minutes were really bad, he looked better when we were winning.m but most players have that mentality when not under pressure.

I just find it frustrating that we have 3 right backs and none inspire confidence. When we signed Regi for much the same money he seemed more complete immediately so perhaps I am being unduly picky

Anyway just an opinion

Had the hardest task on the pitch today. Playing 90 minutes in a position which is probably the most demanding physically of any outfield position less than 3 days after playing 90 minutes almost halfway across the globe. Wasn’t a standout but wasn’t a weak link at all. And if people do think he was poor, well there’s a very good reason for it as I mentioned above. Incredible physical effort.

I thought he was very poor today, but I'm giving him the benefit of the doubt as he's so new to the league etc.. Had some okay moments, but I thought poor defensively and offered very little going forward

Thought he was decent. I like fact that he is a proper athlete, similar to Walker, who also had his critics about brain farts. I think we will see him improve and I already feel fairly confident with him in most one v one match ups

Emerson played for Brazil in Manaus, the Amazon city, on Thursday, flew back to London and then on to Newcastle. He must've been jet-lagged as fuck and there's no way he would have been at his best. Added to that he's only played 4 games for us. I find it very odd that people here think today's game helps us judge him. If he didn't have a shocker, that sounds positive to me.
