I would look to replace Davies sooner as he's getting older. Although I don't mind keeping him for squad depth. Maybe centre back is going to be his best position at this stage of his career but needs a quality and pacey partner. Emerson is good cover so I wouldn't worry about upgrading him next year. Left back is more important and of course centre back. Don't forget we haven't seen much of Emerson in his favoured right much this season. He's good enough cover there.

We can agree to disagree, mate. 😊

We shouldn’t be thinking about 1st and 2nd choices; we should have players competing for a place in the starting 11. I’d be very surprised if Royal is rated among the 40-50 best RBs around. In other words: he’s upgradable.

Given our year long problems with HG quota, we should try to find (or develop ourselves) a just as good or better alternative.
Unless you're City you're not going to get a team of worldies in every position. He's a decent squad option, who doesn't kick up a fuss. We could do a whole lot worse. There are other areas that need focusing on before we look at RB.

Agree to this but i think there are more priorites at the moment and he is more than capable in the meantime.

A backup RB playing LB. It's never going to be reminiscent of prime Roberto Carlos.

Thought he was excellent today in an unfamiliar position. He is such a good pro.
Agree fully. He is a solid pro. He is essentially the new Ben Davies. Great squad player, great guy in general, doesn't kick up a fuss and will play wherever we need him. Won't always be 10/10, but definitely a steady 7/10 always.

Yet I thought we missed Udogie big time today.
Well yeah Udogie's top class and Emerson's either 4th or 5th choice LB and playing out of position? Udogie, Davies, Perisic, Sess, Emerson? It's not news that Udogie's really good and Emerson's not actually a LB lol, do you expect an out of position player to be of similar quality to one of the best young talents in the world in that same position? Have some perspective and cut the guy some slack

Yeah but mate..... I'm not sure anyone's of the opinion that Emerson's similar to or better than Udogie though? Maybe there are some but I thought they weren't allowed on the internet unsupervised

No one said he was similar . That’s what I was saying , Emerson had a good game yet we really still missed Udogie. Nothing more than that and to be honest your message came across as very patronising.

He scares the shit out of me but I’m not sure why. Always seems to be on the edge of it going pear shaped but rarely goes over the line.

Mate you're in Emerson's thread saying that he, as the 5th choice LB and playing out of position, isn't as good as the 1st choice LB. You don't think that sounds particularly patronising towards Emerson? Have a bit of self awareness

He needs commending for his professionalism. Davies too.

You need players like that in the squad because they will do a job that is asked of them rather than kick off due to not playing frequently.

Emerson and Davies are generally fine, the problem is when you have to cump them with Dier, Hojbjerg Skipp etc
