It’s so hard to find players who are good enough as backup, have a great attitude even when not starting, and can cover multiple positions. Add in that he is relatively young and isn’t usually away for international tournaments and it’s a no brainer to keep him.

The whole point of the pointless Saudi League is to fleece them for as much oily blood money as possible. You can forget £20m, start negotiating when they mention £50m. Emerson is a Swiss-army knife of a player and we need him with the way we pick up injuries and suspensions.
Exactly.

You need players in your squad who will do any role you ask and not kick up a stink.

Emerson clearly doesnt want to leave and he had done everything Ange has asked of him.

Dont reward him by palming him off somewhere (I doubt he wants to go there). Reward him by making him feel an important player who will come into any situation and give 100%.

Its not always about having 2 key players per position, sometimes its about having versátile players like Emerson and Davies who are 100% committed to the cause.

He’s Brazilian, mate.

Would we be 5 off top without him? Would we fuck, been so reliable and needed this season.

Seems a great lad too, no way are we selling him

He's a nice guy but even though he's proven to be reliable, he didn't impress at all. We conceded 4 goals against Brighton when he was playing centrally. As leftback he was at most alright and only played due to the injury crisis. Once the squad is fixed he'll have no role.

We need to sell when we can get some decent money and invest in players that can improve our bench. If we are serious we need to improve our bench

He’s a better defender than Porro. And been excellent whenever called on. The manager has already said he loves him. Who are we upgrading him with?

It doesn’t really matter that he’s a better defender than Porro. Porro is better at the specific role that he’s been tasked with, hence why he’s the nailed down starter regardless of the opposition.

That role is totally unique - Guardiola described Ange’s use of fullbacks as “something I’ve never seen before” and said they’re more like “attacking midfielders”. Does that sound like Emerson to you?

Regarding upgrades, before the Forest game Ange was asked whether he’s ever had any defenders as good at passing and play making as Porro is - he name checked Greg Taylor, Anthony Ralston, Alistair Johnson and Ken Matsubara as hugely influential and key to the way he plays. Point being, there’s a plethora of players out there we’ve never even heard of before that would be a better fit than Royal in his system.

I'd rather poor grammar than these snobbish type comments.
I changed "hate" to "despise" and this is more than just a spelling mistake, it's this new grammar mistake that I've seen everywhere.

it's better to tell them then let it continue

Name an improvement on Emerson that's happy sitting on the bench.

I'll wait.
I don't know, which is not an issue as I'm not a scout. But it's clear he cannot play the Porro or udogie role well and he is very limited as a CB. Works as a last resort but we surely can find better.

I know some people are very anti-Royal, but I think he’s shown his versatility this season in being able to play RB/LB and even CB in a pinch. Also he’s a brilliant dressing room presence.

A player of his standard that is somewhat ok with being a squad player is very hard to come by, so I would be hard pressed to sell him unless it’s well above his market value.

actually I think his liked, works hard, fights for the shirt, plays where asked.

the guys not the best player but his a really great squad member

I guess it all depends on Ange long term view, like he did with Sanchez, he seems very pragmatic in that sense

Personally would like us to keep him as a good squad player

You don't know because you're not a scout, but you know he can't play the Porro/Udogie role....

Ok.

Don't think selling him mid-season is a good idea at all. He's a versatile squad player who provides depth in multiple positions, is a valuable sub option to help close out matches and seems pretty popular with the rest of the team too. Regardless of all that I also don't see him wanting to go to Saudi, especially not with how many players are looking to bail out of there now.

I agree reading something with the incorrect use of his/he is, or their / they're etc is annoying, do you really think it's better to tell them, then let it continue.. 😉

He's done amazing to overcome the abuse and really step up.

I'd still sell if the price were right as he's an easy upgrade. It's looking like this window is the one where some extra money would be put to good use while others strugglr with FFP.

I always find bids like this a bit random. I mean reports state he isnt really interested in going, we aren’t actively looking to sell him (plenty of others need to be shipped before he goes) then why would the saudi’s even bother bidding? Surely one of us or emerson has put the feelers out for a bid to be submitted?
