In Ange’s system he’s probably better as a CB as opposed to RB.

So I’d consider selling if we get a fee in the region of £35m and get a more attacking RB to cover for Porro. He’s just too limited on the ball to play that position.

But he’s a dependable squad player, so there’s not a massive need to sell him either.

I don’t think selling him this window is a good idea and I’d be surprised if we did it tbh. Not unless a large bid came in. He knows the system, can cover RB, CB, Lb and is very consistent. He’s also rarely injured. Do I think we can eventually upgrade? Yes we can but doing it now I think would likely be detrimental to our season. Unless we have our eye on another RB who we think would slot in seamlessly, be available now and obviously be a significant upgrade on Royal selling now wouldn’t make sense to me.

They're just looking to snaffle up any old player who's half recognizable imo to legitimize their poxy league. The cat's out of the bag though with plenty of players already desperately tryin to get out.
But why him of all our players?

We don’t have any other right backs do we. If we sell him because it’s a good offer and he’s a back up we would have to replace him and use up at least half of what we get for him. I say keep he’s a good squad player and can cover 3 positions.

Only if he wants to go and we get big money would I sell. Any squad player we get big money for can be sold really. The rest of Europe is broke so it could make sense but needs to be big money.

I mean, these clubs don’t appear to have any real strategy in terms of their transfers, let’s just hope the conversation starts with Emerson and ends with them buying literally everyone else we don’t want anymore.

I hate the idea of us involving ourselves in anything to do with the Saudi league. As we all know, they have an appalling stance on human rights and the whole thing is just a blatant sportswashing enterprise. I know it would be nice to get top money for our players and all that, but it still wouldn't sit at all well with me. My stance hasn't changed one iota since it was initiated.

He's just twenty five, appears to be happy with being a squad player behind Porro so even if we sold him, who would be prepared to come in and play second fiddle and would be better?

We tried for half a decade to find a quality Kane backup and how did that end up?

Better keep a player who's happy with his situation than trying to find the next Spence?

I’ve got a lot of time for Royal. He’s been very good covering multiple positions this season and is a good option off the bench

That's why we spend millions a year on a scouting department.

There are definitely more suitable options out there for Ange's system.

But as I said, I'm in no rush to sell him unless we get a sizeable bid.

In the summer we can have this conversation but for now, absolute non starter for me
But, playing devil's advocate.
If a good bid came in and Royal was a player the club was considering replacing in the summer, would they wait and potentially not have the interest, or at a lesser price???

How much a better of a RB that can clearly cover CB do you think we can get?

I’m not convinced the Saudi clubs are just vomiting out bids at random. If they’re pushing this, I expect it means Emerson’s agent has been putting out feelers for a move. He clearly knows he’s second choice at RB, not a perfect fit for Ange’s system, and with Dragusin arriving and Ash tearing up the Championship, there’s a real chance that his minutes at CB are over. If he wants to move somewhere he can play and not spend his career as a bench option, I wouldn’t begrudge him that at all, but I do hope it would be better than Saudi.

Actually thought he played quite well early on as the inverted fullback.

He's actually alot more technically gifted than people give him credit for, same defensively, he's not amazing, but show me another player in their mid 20's that could play the Ange wing back position on both sides decently and also do a great job as an emergency CB?

IMO he's an invaluable member of the squad right now, especially with potential injuries all over the place, a player so versatile and competent at RB, LB and CB isn't easy to find.

He's a great character to add, doesn't strike me to have the personality to even consider the Saudi league either.

He also showed a huge amount of character to weather the storm and widespread abuse when he first played for us. That sort of grit and determination is worth a hell of a lot.

Underserved abuse also as he was bought for Nuno for a back 4, Conte came in and had no choice but to be the square peg in a round hole, he's not a wide wing back, especially in Conte's system which needed a good delivery from the wing back. Not his fault but always gave his best.

Depends if you genuinely believe we could win a trophy this year.

I personally think it is possible and therefore leaving ourself short at RB is not an option.

I do not believe we could finalise a sale and bring in a suitable replacement in the next 10 or so days.

If that cost us 10mil between now and the summer then so be it. Footballing requirements cone first.
