I'm caught in two minds.

On one hand I see the big contribution he made last season.

But on the other I just can't see him doing much next season, especially if we recruit Lo Celso which should increase competition on the attacking front.

I'm not majorly concerned about having a number 9 in the ranks. I think with Son and Moura and Parrott in the background that's OK and not a pressing matter.

Too soon for Parrott and getting a viable alternative in will cost money out of our budget. Money for a player to play backup/rotation and likely a player we'll struggle to shift in 2 years if it doesn't work out - which for the amount we'd spend on this type of player, is quite likely.

Llorente and Parrott for domestic cups I'm fine with. If we can't shift VJ, i'd rather him in the shop window, but maybe this means he'll be gone regardless. Don't want to see Kane near the squad in those cups, let alone starting 11 this year until the latter stages or if it's a big early tie.

There's no need for Llorente if we get a winger or any type of forward. Son would be 2nd choice and Lucas 3rd. The problem has been who takes up those wide positions when one of those two have to go up front.

I'll be annoyed if Llorente comes back considering we loaned out Clarke. He could have easily played a lot of minutes for us playing that role. We always get injuries. If we'd kept Clarke on there would be no need to re-sign Llorente or bring in any other forward for that matter. We would need only Lo Celso and a left back assuming Eriksen is now staying.

Clarke has been a career total of 24 games, never played up front, what makes you think it would do a better job up front than Llorente

I know he turned out to be useful in parts last season and he was even instrumental in stages but I'll be brutally honest, I personally hate the idea of another season of needing a goal and seeing us bringing Llorente on to try and get it. Like said he made some important contributions last season for sure, but minus those moments I found him incredibly frustrating to watch.

I just hope we thicken up the squad enough for us to have other attacking options before Llorente.

I think we really started to get to know how to utilize him effectively at the back end of last season.

It makes sense.

I’m of the opinion that in a squad of 25, there’s definitely room for Llorente. On the pitch he’s got his uses, it also gives us depth, plus he’s a winner and a fighter which is invaluable in the dressing room/ in training.

However, it would put us back up to our non hg limit, so I’d hope if he signed one of Aurier, Wanyama, Dier, Eriksen, Lamela were near the exit door as Lo Celso has to be a priority signing.

BBLG - sorry to hear of your recent troubles.

In response to this I agree with others in that Llorente's overall contribution (in the prem, particularly) is not worth his retention. I think he can be a good option to hold the ball up - Ajax game was testament to that. However I don't believe one or two games is worth a valuable place in the squad of 25.

All that said, we have been told the squad revamp won't happen all in the one window. Just have to be patient. Again... :oldman:

Don't think it's too soon for Parrott. Players like De Ligt or Sancho starts senior career at age of 17. He looks good physically and with Lucas, Son and even Lamela being able to play as a striker, I don't think we need Llorente and saving HG space and probably 50k pw would be very good for new contract for Eriksen or another transfer

This pretty much sums up my view also. As soon as you see him come on you know we are going to play like rubbish in the hope something bounces off him. I know this worked occasionally last season (in high profile occasions) but plenty other times it led to nothing except a poor performance from the team.

haha

How on earth can you complain about not wanting him to come on and then in literally the same breath acknowledge that it did work sometimes.

You could name a shitload of better players whose role would be coming off the bench and it would only work sometimes :D

The guy isn't the best in the world but for what we expect, he'll do until that role in the squad needs urgent surgery.

Talk about hard to please :p

Or am I easy to please? :nailbiting:

We already have main backups for Kane in Son and Lucas. Llorente gives us an option to change it up if we need. He was useful this season and cost nothing. I don't see why anyone could be that opposed to giving him another year.

I see somene worried he will hinder Parrotts progress; if anything his experience would aid his progress.

Way more important places to spend whatever funds we have than a staight Kane backup.
