Levy needs to remind himself of our shirt sponsor's slogan

Not sure that’s true as if Bale signs I may have a heart attack.

Kinda "thinking out loud", but I reckon you could make an argument that this could be a good financial move.

Amazon doccie + eCommerce tie-in, one of the highest profile coaches/managers in football (upcoming Netflix mini-series will boost further), fancy new stadium with tons of tourist attraction value (Covid restrictions will go away eventually), the Alex Morgan loan, cross-marketing with NFL.

That's a pretty strong marketing position to be in. Just need to consolidate. Silverware would be first way, which we seem to be working on and have reasonable expectations of achieving this season. And then secondly, a high-profile signing.

Bale probably represents the highest profile signing we could make. As ITK even suggested, the deal that would make it happen if it did would be a deal only available to us. We simply can't sign players of GB's stature otherwise (yet).

I mean, it's not a foolproof plan, but it's a possible plan. And brands do take gambles like this. (Story time: I worked on a TV ad for that Scotch brand who likes a stroll and they had a budget of X, until we found out we could get a top NYC-based celeb but for 6 times X. I've never seen a brand come up with budget that quickly! Was it the right move? Hard to say, as Covid has screwed all numbers. But it taught me that there are budgets, and then there are budgets.)

Yeah I would rather bring Bale in than a younger prospect who could become world class. As others have said, we need to win things now or else the likes of Kane and Son who aren’t getting any younger will soon be asking for a move.

Why do you think Jose was brought in, because Levy knows the next 1/2 seasons are when we have the best chance of getting a trophy or 2.

That is why I think he could well push this deal through, if he has asked Jose if he thinks Bale would help achieve his goals this season and Jose says yes then I think he will do all he can to get the deal done but the finances are going to be a battle. Bet Mr.Hitchen is loving it. Wonder who is going to tell him that once this window ends he only has 3 months until January transfer window.

Agree. I’m sure there is a sense at the club that with Kane and Son reaching their prime years that building for the future won’t cut it for much longer. They’re too good not to win something and could easily go to a top tier club in the top 5 leagues and properly challenge for leagues and cup.

Bale almost certainly still a long shot but he is a signing for the ‘now’ and with Jose having a ‘build the for moment’ mentality it’s a much more compelling case to stick around.

There's not a universe where Redknapp's last season was "prime Bale". He went up a level for AVB, then improved again at Real.

I wouldn’t agree that he went up again at Real. Last season under AVB he carried Spurs on his back. He never did that at Real, and never even came close to replicating that form over a season.

No idea whether we'll sign him or not, but for those doubting his ability this YT clip selection is useful...

Even after a tough year where he was hardly motivated, he's still got skill, swagger, pace and strength in spades.

I honestly think we'd win the league if we signed him...

...and imagine if NDombele decided to live up to his ability level too!!

Holy moly!!

When people said a front 3 of Kane Son and Bale I always had in my head Bale and Son both play left.... But a lot of that clip is bale playing wide right!

With all the talk of Gareth's age, the money he'll cost, how long he'll have before he's 'past it'.... I'm reminded of this scene from Moneyball. If you've not seen it... it's worth a watch. Very likely this is the guise he'd come to Spurs on.

Signing Bale would do more than just give us a potential great player. It would make the squad and fans believe. That’s really important when you are trying create a winning mentality

This isn't sensible logic. What you're essentially saying is that Bale didn't improve at Real, because Real were better than our 2012/13 squad. Hmm.

Bale went on to score incredible goals in huge games for Real - a number of them being goals the Spurs Bale would never have been able to do. I can't even see that it's down to opinion - he improved immensely at Real, and I'm sure that was down to playing with some of the generation's best players around him.

Bale played as a RWF mainly under AVB at Spurs too. Last tiem he played as a left winger was under Redknapp with Lennon on the right and Crouch through the middle with VDV.

I was just thinking the same thing. Bale turning up to training every day would put a bounce in everyone’s step, including the manager.
