My comment was clearly facetious based on the assertion, completely lacking in basis, that the poster I was responding too had absolute knowledge on Pochettino’s intended us of Lo Celso.

Stop stalking me, it’s getting creepy. I’m not flattered and your feelings will remain unrequited.

I Honestly can’t help it, your sanctimonious posts rub me up the wrong way.

Not only do we have a Pochettino v Mourinho but now we have Lo Celso v Fernandes sides too. Some people just never going to be happy no matter who we get.
Like spoilt kids always want something bigger or better. ?

Jeez - it's his first season, which has been massively interrupted with (i) Injury (ii) managerial change (iii) positional change (iv) Covid (v) us being f*cking rubbish for large parts of it....what do you expect?

I think he's really talented. We need to figure out where best to use him, and he needs to work on his final ball, but he's got what it takes to be a really good player

We won’t see what potential Lo Celso has until we prioritise building a competitive midfield again. It’s been very worrying how often we get outplayed and overrun in midfield the last two years. We need an anchor for a start who can break up play and start our own attacks. Then we need link up players who can feed off Lo Celso and bring out the best in him. We might have them already in Bergwijn, Lucas and Son but back to my previous point, we’ve been so overrun in midfield our players are not being able to express themselves

He's doing what his manager asks of him, he's a very flexible player and is capable of a lot more.

He was productive for Betis last season playing higher up the pitch.

Balance the squad and watch him (and others) flourish.

6.5/10 season for him, actually just about what I expected, next season we'll start to see the real Gio - when the teams settles down and he'll get used to his role more - actually really excited to see what he can do next season.

His stats favor him in deeper role, except turnovers where he is one of the worst in the world. Some of it is because we have some players hiding from the ball and general movement without the ball is bad but a lot of it is him just being sloppy and adjusting to the league. Great at almost everything else, he will be huge for us.

Further evidence why he and Ndombele really perfectly compliment each other in a potential midfield three. Getting that to work is the key to a succesful season next year.

It’s so weird. Last season effectively playing in a Dele role ala second striker he had his best season. But for us his best position seems to be a deep lying playmaker. I actually don’t think he was particularly that good during the season as a whole but he showed that we did not buy a dud and if we find the right role for him, he’ll excel.

Is this not because that's what we have been playing him as?

His entire career bar one season at Betis where he played more advanced because the rest of their attack was dross support the view that he’s best deeper. When we were first linked I was trying to get this across too.

He can play in the final third, he has both vision and technique, but his best attribute has always been his ability to transition play and pull the opposition out of shape. Put him either next to a pure sitter in a pivot like we did with Modric, or in a midfield 3 as an all rounder with a spare man and a sitter, and you’ll see the best of him.
