Yeah, but maybe there are other targets that Ange likes also, he's not known for wanting to throw big money at people, he likes his hidden gems, so assuming our head scout (who found our 'new' keeper) knows what he's doing (cause its not Levy), I would think there are other equally good targets!!
But who would bring his level of output? Is proven in the league etc.
this is where I just get so frustrated with the club. We have an opportunity to sign big output and we just won’t as per usual pay the money it’s just rinse and repeat season after season and it’s why we are where we are

That worked in the Scottish league but the premier league is a whole other beast.

Maddison is proven in the PL, homegrown, and has pretty much had double goals and assists tallies for the past 4+ years.

One of these hidden gems might take two seasons to get fully up to speed. Whereas, Maddison can hit the ground running straight away.

I’m not sure it was a precedent, more we have a valuation for that particular player, which obviously isn’t £40m. It may well be circa £50m and if they won’t move then we walk

just re read your post and you basically said that didn’t you. Sorry, had a long day driving to Bristol and back for a funeral, 9 1/2 hours on the road has clearly frazzled my brain 🙈
Personally I just see this one going the same way as Raya. There is an interest for sure but we are too far apart, have other options and the hype around this is very much media driven as opposed to us repeatedly pushing for it.

I'm not saying it definitely won't happen if things change because we do like him. I just believe it's unlikely as it stands.
Good that we have other options though 👍

not to be a downer, but im assuming its going to be two CBs in, one ready made (tapsoba) and one more prospect. We will probably view Ndombele as the new CAM signing/give youth a go. I just don't see with no Europe us chucking 40-50mil on a readymade player especially at a super expensive position.
If we were serious about competing we would

It took them 2 windows to get VVD.

Our problem hasn't been creativity. It's been at the back. Maddison played his best stuff at RWF, and there are questions over his injury record.

We have limited funds and need to get it right.
It is creativity too. I watched us offer nothing in a few games last season but spam crosses. There were games where you shut down Kane we have nothing. We absolutely need passing creativity and someone other than Kane who can unlock defences.

Big Shock as we find out (for the 1000th time) that we wont pay the prices for top targets.
Much better to buy two cheaper average players that we will loan out next season.
I get what you are saying and the frustration but every club has a budget and we are not state owned. The real issue has for me been when this happens and we don’t have other options to pursue but we do with this so it is what it is

Glad that we are not going to overspend on Maddison as he is a player I would be quite underwhelmed with as I just don't think he is all that.

Yeah but our budget is always small. We were in the champions league last season, had 150m put into the club and we spent 100m I mean come on it’s an absolute joke.

Yep pretty much like Bissouma and Richarlison did in a new system.

He's been arguably a top 3 CAM in the league for 4+ years

Who do you think we could possibly get who's better?

If Maddison is out of reach and beyond budget then hopefully we have back-up targets in place. Suprised we aren't linked with Keito Nakamura at LASK (Austrian Bundesliga) left-sided winger who cuts in and got a good goal return last season - quite similar to Son but not as fast. I'll be shocked if we don't buy a Japanese player this summer, this guy could be the next Mitoma.

I just think he is overhyped and rarely plays well against the better teams. I think he is ok but we can probably get better value elsewhere.

So according to this guy he is a key target for the manager.

This is what I was hoping.
Wouldn't put an awful lot behind Romano's choice of phrases.

You should read these sorts of tweets as "we're interested in Maddison".

In your post you mention the budget is “always small”. It isn’t and just about every manager has been backed with money, just not the right players for the manager! This so the change that needs to happen, not the spend but on the players to suit the system and manager we have.

Yep pretty much like Bissouma and Richarlison did in a new system.

Bissouma and Richarlison didn't hit the ground running due to injuries and Conte giving them 15 mins off the bench every game.

The stone age style of football didn't help either.

Not holding my breath for Maddison. When we shaved money off the Kulu fee i thought that would expedite Raya. Now we've saved money on the Raya deal going for Vicario i fear it is more an emerging trend in line with Dragons sub £15m signings ITK rather than funds to help bridge the gap for JM.

I'd rather we spent big in defence personally because that is where the biggest need is in the squad.
