If there is an early release clause, I only hope we call on it in case of emergency. Him getting full games in a physical league will only help his development. He uses his body so well that the more tackles and body checks he faces the better. His technical ability has never been the issue, it is what's in between his ears and with constant pressure and harassment he will start to have that self-belief.

I reckon it's more likely we do what we did with Kyle Walker and recall him to send him to a Prem side for the second half of the season

I agree.
I think the tournament in the Summer showed how he'd outgrown youth football, but as 5th choice CM, he was unlikely to see any game time.
A season playing in the Championship will give him all the experience he needs and then next year he will be in a position to challenge the likes of Dembele without any discernible drop in quality.

Chelsea have a thin squad apparently.:)

I don't usually go on other club forums but drifted onto villatalk and found this little gem on Josh:-

He passes and then carries on moving? What exactly is this sorcery??

Am liking their sense of humour.

He was also voted (by a massive margin) the Villa MOTM against Cardiff.

You watch us plod around on Sunday, and you realise what Onomah could bring to that midfield. He'd see as much ball as Dier, but he can pass it, play incisive passes and move past players with the ball.

Hope he does well on his loan, but I am still very pissed that we didn't keep him here and have the courage to play him in midfield with someone like Wanyama next to him. He's exactly what we need in that part of the pitch. I know he's still got learning to do, but who of our team hasn't or is foot perfect ?

Seems very, very clear that Josh O wanted the move. He will be better for it. A better player by next season. There is no way the GOAT was going to let Josh get the game time he currently needs. He will come back better and still get to learn from his idol until the student ultimately becomes the master.

It also seems very clear that he wanted the move because Pochettino, idiotically, refused to play him in Cm in cup games, at all in league games, even when 3/4-0 up with 30 minutes to go, or in pre-season friendlies.

Of course he's got learning to do, and that includes from people like Dembele, but there are things he does better than Dembele now, and I just wish Pochettino had used his noggin and given him more development minutes over the last couple of years than what he got and I think he'd be ready now to start playing more games in midfield, which could have made us a better team and saved us millions.

not sure if agree with that. The interviews he gave suggest a real buy in to this coach and team....and the discussion with Poch took Josh convincing him which suggests questions of timing, development etc. Anyhow is what it is....hope he tears up the division for Villa until Jan and then gets a second half of the season move to the Seagulls where he can assist them avoid relegation!!!

Sorry what would those be? And where did he display those, against 18 year olds presumably?

He has never showed anything in his first team game time at Spurs to suggest he should be a starter. The loan is the best option and well overdue

Plodded round cos of Sissoko contribution.

And Josh may have great future ahead of him and hopefully with Spurs but for you to suggest he start alongside Wanyama ahead of Dembele is a bit rich

A loan is the perfect opportunity for him. Certainly looks like Villa need him so should get plenty of game time

Would love Josh to play well enough to get either recalled to us, or a PL loan.

They're playing again tonight, tough game away to Reading. Hopefully he gets another start. It's good for him all the games coming thick and fast.
