Moura needs to keep improving his assist rate to justify his place in the team ahead of Bergwijn. He only has 5 assists in 72 premier league appearances, which quite frankly is appalling (especially when 2 of them came in the last game!). He also only has 4 PL goals to his name this season, which again is very poor for an attacking player for a club with CL aspirations. He needs to offer a combined 20 goals and assists a year, similar to how Son does on the other flank.

Premier League statistics from this season ...

Player - Appearances - Goals - Assists - Combined Ratio (e.g. goal/assist per game)
Son - 29 - 11 - 10 - 0.72
Dele - 24 - 8 - 4 - 0.5
Bergwijn - 13 - 3 - 1 - 0.31
Moura - 34 - 4 - 4 - 0.23

Willian had very similar numbers and Jose rarely dropped him when he was at Chelsea.

It probably more to do with the fact that Jose isn't too bothered about his goal involvements, more his defending...run his tackling, pressing and ball recovery stats alongside those game players and you'll probably get the complete opposite outcome.

On a completely different level?

He’s had a couple of good games, Lennon was excellent in his prime for us so think that’s a harsh assessment there.

Some of the things Lennon could do with a ball were stunning and he wasn’t just about pace (although that was naturally a big asset).
love Lennon but Lucas' goal return per appearance is 3 times Aarons. of course we played boring 4-4-2 back then with everything through the strikers.

Sorry mate but it was not boring. Under Redknapp we were probably the last best and entertaining side to find some success with 442

I was never his biggest fan and was very indifferent about him signing, but he's become my favourite player. I see him as Lamela on steroids. Lamela used to get so much praise for his pressing, but now Moura has been playing consistently on the right, his work rate makes Lamela look half arsed. I think there was a game towards the end of the season when Lucas made 10 tackles! That's an insane number for a ball winning DM to make in a game. He's also creating a lot more now, which I don't think will be fully observed until next season, when it gets reflected in his assist stats. On the RW, he was averaging about 2 chances created per game from open play, which is actually high. Most chances created stats are inflated by set pieces. So, if he continues in the role he's been playing, post lock down, then next season I'd expect him to get into double figures for assists. I think then he'll start to get more universal praise from our fans, as rightly, we've largely disappointed with his creativity since he's been with us and his goals have been the only thing that have kept the fans onside (and he scored to pretty important one's!)

I think the fact he's playing such a defined role now, will really change his reputation among our fans. I think he's a decent bet to be our POTY next season, as his ball winning and creativity will become a major talking point. I think his Spurs career has been hampered by the way Poch chose to use him and sometimes, out of necessity, having to play him out of position. Now, under Mourinho, he has such a clearly defined role and he's so effective at it, that he will thrive next season. Prior to lock down, I'd certainly have been open to letting him go. I even would have been ok with selling him at the end of last season, despite his CL heroics. But now, I think he's going to be a key player under Jose.

Aside from what he does on the pitch, I think he's such a nice guy. I really like our South American players in general.

Willian this season has 9 goals and 7 assists and would feature way above Moura in the table I created showing our AM goal contribution ratios.

Last season Lucas' output was far better than Willian's ?‍♀️

Lucas's career totals in goal contributions are better than Willian's as well. ?‍♀️

The point is though I don't think Jose is looking at his attacking output because he's looking for a player who has very good defensive output which Lucas has.

Willian isn’t playing under Mourinho this season, and added to that, it’s his best ever season for both stats across his entire career. Maybe it’s to do with a different system

Mourinho and Lucas could well be a match made in heaven and I'm excited to see how they progress.
Lucas has certainly improved in several areas under Jose, who seems to really like him too.
Not that long ago, it was only really his CL performances that were keeping me from thinking he should be moved on, like some kind of loyalty for that one night in particular.
Now, his recent performances have convinced me that he's the ideal player to have in the squad.

Plus, he really seems to be a lovely bloke - those food packages he sent around the squad during lockdown being the perfect example.

The last 3 games of the season he was fantastic - finally he had consistently good passing and touches. I hope he can carry this into the new season and consistently perform like that.

Doesn't score enough for a forward player

Doesn't assist enough for a forward player

Huge energy and great closing down.

Seems to be trusted by JM to do exactly what is asked.

Can see him playing an awful lot next season.

Honestly he used to piss me off with his inconsistency but he has improved, he still has the raw abilities to be world class, one to watch for next season imo.

I can understand the frustrations with Lucas but what these stats don't tell us is his overall contribution to the team via his defensive work.
No-one can have missed his numerous tackles and interceptions recently . He really is good at getting the ball back . He also has a very high jump when challenging for headers .

Son is top of your table and has done well , but is it only me and Hugo who are angered by his lackadaisical attitude to challenging defenders for the ball..jumping for headers , defensive duties in general ?
