IMO, he just doesn't have the desire or attitude to play at the top. He seems more focused on his image and thats really it. Good luck to him, however.

The Pro Edwards people on here are crazy. Joining a second rate Portuguese side and 1700 minutes in a relegated Eredivisie Football Club are being spun as positives.

No criticism of him is allowed and it means despite all evidence to the contrary our Academy sucks.

Of course that's the same academy that brought few Kane Winks - we could go on . I think Marcus issue is that he plays really as a nbr 10 and needs to be played further up the pitch. For me he didn't quite effect games enough and at times struggled to get involved and he could at those times look a little innocuous as a player. Who knows about attitude but I think its more a positional thing and how to get him involved that for me were the reasons he never quite made it

This was always going to happen. So much potential, however it seems he lacked desire ant the right attitude required to make it at the top level. Goes to show it's mostly personality that gets you to the top.

Hugely wasted talent - just shows how important the right attitude is.

Messi comments etc obviously did him no good to the point he probably thought he was too special for the required graft.

Just shows how different he is to someone like Kane who always works hard to be the best he can be.

The beauty of this is eventually, we will all find out if we were wrong to let him go.

He was seemingly available for pretty much every club this summer, and given the premium on English talent you’d have thought plenty of English clubs would have taken a look at him.

Perhaps they didn’t fancy the tribunal fee, which wouldn’t have been huge anyway.

Will be interesting to see how he goes out there

he was still under contract so wouldn't have been a tribunal, we also have a 50% sell on clause with vitoria so maybe that appealed to us more than what english clubs were offering.

i watched the last 20 mins or so of their game today(marcus wasn't playing as still injured) but the quality definitely seemed higher than the dutch league. anyway, i think this thread should be moved to general football now seeing as he's no longer a spurs player, plus that way i can post about him without annoying people.

Agree the thread should be moved to General Football.

Like you I will always lookout for how he is doing and hope that one day soon he is playing in a match that is close to me so I can go and watch him play once again, like I do with other Ex Spurs players as well.

Interesting about the sell on clause - of course if he does come good then we can buy him back at half the going price!

Are you a family member of his or work for his agency?

It makes absolute sense for Vitoria to make his stay there a success. They got him for free and he has a lot of publicity on him. If he has a good season with them there will be a lot of teams looking to capitalise on the 15m limit and Vitoria will get half that for very little outlay.

Would be interesting to know a ballpark figure of what the Edwards fee might have been, given Liverpool seemingly selling Ryan Kent for £7m today. Who ever is responsible for arranging their outgoing transfers really is the best financial operator in the game currently IMO.

Edwards was repeatedly talked up as the most talented player we've had come through our ranks in a long time, so would be good to know how his sale stacks up against the money that our competitors are earning when they sell youth players who are deemed surplus to first team requirements.
But to be fair Kent has had a few very good seasons in the championship and SPL. Edwards made 1 appearance for Norwich and was by all accounts mediocre in the Eredivisie

made his debut tonight coming on for the final 20 mins in a 0-0 draw away to benfica in the portuguese cup. wasn't involved a great amount in that time but had a couple of nice touches, the one moment that impressed me though was when their brute of a cb tried to barge him over but marcus surprisingly just shrugged him off. hopefully he can really kick on with his career now and watching vitoria play i'm glad that he's joined a serious outfit as his last club excelsior really did look quite amateur a lot of the time.

on a side note, adel taarabt was also playing, though i was surprised to see him playing as a holding midfielder.

Came off the bench today and nearly got his first goal, picked the ball up ouside the box run round two players then had a good shot that was going in bottom left hand corner but the keeper pulled off a good save.
