Bentaleb is currently the best CM we have, he is also one of the best in the EPL - NOW. Watch Matic or Schniederlin play and then watch Bentaleb. Check their stats andy factor in he's 20.
I'm not saying we should or shouldn't pay him 80k pw, but in a world where we've paid little twerps like Defoe 70k pw to touch the ball 11 times a game and score 12 gaols a season, or his royal Togolise highness 100k pw, I personally have no problem with Bentaleb getting 80k pw.
He also hasn't cost us a penny in transfer fees.

I don't have a problem with giving him a high salary either.
I can see why youth players would be upset if they're keeping highly paid stars on the bench but not getting the same salary.
Hopefully it's just a case of getting rid of a few players to free up the wage budget.

But if we pay him 80k now, how much will he be asking in 3 years? Will Kane think, if he is getting 80k, why am I not getting 80k, will Lloris want more being the captain, or Eriksen with the number of goals he has from midfield?

It's all positioning if you ask me. Is he an 80k a week player, his performances would suggest so. Certainly if he does the business next year 80k is very reasonable. Will we pay him that? Not yet. But he's within his rights to be pushing for it.
